So looking at the reference 744 and 77W charts from Boeing, say you want to go 6000 miles at full passenger load and cargo.
The 744 at the 875K MTOW and PW engines seems to be able to carry 416 passengers and 48,000 pounds on said mission, is that right? The 773 would carry 301 passengers and 4400 lbs of cargo, does that seem right? Of course this doesn't seem to be the 300ER either. hmmm. more google searching. |

UA sure makes a bunch of them work! |
The 747 sells more tickets due to its marketing presence as well.

Mad Dogs gonna become the Millineum Falcon of the fleets...not a lot to look at but has it in all the right places...what's next? Flux capacitors and warp drives?

As was previously posted the post 9-11 pre-merger fleet plan was for three fleet types (not counting the 500 plus RJs that Leo and Fred bought for billions).
737 NG 757/767 777 "Fleet simplicity" was the mantra when they were parking L-10s, 727s, Classic 737s, and MD-11s as quick as they possibly could. As Sailing said they swore that our very survival depended on it...... So maybe "Fleet simplicity" will be back in vogue again? What about putting the right airplane in the right market? Scoop I thought Sailing was saying that our current management previously had the mindset to bring the fleet down to three aircraft types. Ala, if they did get more 747-400's, it wold be opposite of what they were thinking back when they made the statement. I guess I read too much into what he was saying, because I don't really hear anyone currently saying they are looking for fleet simplicity. |

Your reading the charts wrong. Use the chart for the 300ER not the base 300. Note the range each aircraft reaches a passenger only load not including cargo. Keep in mind those are weight only cargo capacities. The 777 has more cube which is what normally get used up first on mid range flights.
Edit-UAL isn't the 773ER though |

Hey, that wasn't you driving that Range Rover around in LAS, was it? You know you shot up a perfectly good Maserati? Kind of harsh. :p:D |
