Hi everybody, this is Steve Dickson with the weekly Flight Operations Update for Friday June 8th.

....

Finally, I know the big question out there on the line as you hear about mainline growth is how that will impact our pilot staffing and whether it will jumpstart pilot hiring. It’s been no secret that we are looking at a wave of pilot retirements over the next few years as pilots begin to approach age 65. Because of that, our pilot hiring group has remained active since we stopped our last round of hiring in 2010, and we are prepared to start the hiring process on short notice. While our hiring is ultimately based on the Network block hour plan, which in turn is affected by the economy, all indications are that the addition of 717s and the opportunity for pilots to take advantage of the Pilot Retirement Medical Account (RMA) early retirement option will accelerate movement across the seniority list and require us to begin hiring earlier than the planned pilot retirements alone would have. If Delta can continue to execute its business plan, including the 717s, and barring an economic downturn or other unanticipated event, we could begin the hiring process as early as the last quarter of this year.

Mmmmmmmmmm.....New Hires.

So new contract that would require more pilots plus an early out plus new 717s plus no change in the economy equals overstaffed and no hiring in 2013.... roger.

At least the AEs will be more frequent.

Well, if that is clearly stated, then SD's statement is clearly as well.

Choose one application for both, because one applies to the other.

Not really. FTB just showed the infamous SD statement again. He used the word "could". When does the word "could" ever guarantee anything?

Also, what is "more frequent" defined as? Were you expecting another AE in 2 months? 4 months?

*Except for when they aren't. :D

I also like the premise that using displacements to fund other aircraft is over after this bid, when the wording they used on the MD is "we believe" and "most likely." (and no johnso, not talking about you;))

Really. Crew planning said "should." SD said "could." Both are conditional. Like I said, choose one application for both.

More frequent is defined as a spacing less than the norm. Aug/Sept is 5-6 months away. How is that more frequent than the 4 months since our last bid?

If you're going to call people out on stuff, at least do it logically.

80,

Where did I disagree that should and could were both conditional? That has been my point all along. Are you trying to find some hidden meaning in my cut and paste statement by Crew Resources?

WRT more frequent, I'm certain there isn't a defined normal interval in between AEs.

You were arguing with someone that the Crew Resources statement is clear.

If that is clear, then so is Dickson's statement.

That is unless you were trying to argue that they were both clearly misleading. ;)

No, I was not. Someone questioned clarification of a statement. I provided said clarification by pasting the statement.

No where in my post did I state or imply that the more frequent AEs were guaranteed.
