Well, sorta. Those jobs were pretty directly outsourced to Comair & Republic.
It is not a waste of intellectual energy if you believe that Delta pilots should perform Delta flying. Scope is the most frequently negotiated section of our contract. The question is constantly relevant. |

Lots of guys once could hold Delta Express captain in their second year with the company back in the late 90s. Does that mean that they have all been getting the shaft ever since? Guess what? The entire industry has sucked for a decade. You know that as much as anyone.
Who cares what a guy could hold back in 1998, or 1988, or 1958? Who cares if "a captain could buy a Cadillac with a month's salary" back in 1971? What is going on today, and how can we best move forward are the only truly important questions. Anything else is a waste of intellectual energy. For perspective, just chat with a UAL or US Air or Air Tran dude. |

Scope is the most frequently negotiated section of our contract. The question is constantly relevant. JMHO, we're going to get some of that back with the 717's. We have a little momentum that I hope we can build on. |

I think your going to find that with the long planned retirements on the 757 there will be displacements off that aircraft on most bids. The key is the gain of 77 more Captains slots. This puts us over 275 new Captains in the last 12 months. As long as they are adding Captains then hiring has to follow as the surplus of FO's moves to CA slots.

Good point. When we have soon to be 325 jumbo RJs a vast majority of which are longer than the 732, don't blame the economy alone for a sucky decade when it comes to things like loss of flying.

Am I the only one watching the Bruins-Penguins game right now????

I have to agree. Career expectations in this profession are worthless. I think we're on the uptick but its not, nor will it ever be, what it once was. At this point, we should just seek the best for our families and be very thankful that our merger was so successful.

Well said Buzz, hopefully the left seat is not too far off for you. Any plans for a sequel to your book with Hillary in the running for 2016?
If Hillary runs, however, game on! I can't wait!! I have LOTS of unused material! |
I just wish this company would admit they have absolutely NO clue what they are doing when it comes to staffing...
From the March 2013 AE: M88 - The M88 is currently overstaffed on both the Captain and First Officer positions. However, we anticipate a number of pilots bidding the 717, so we may or may not have to post displacements. As a result, there may be backfills on the M88, depending on the number of M88 pilots who bid off. From today's AE For the M88, we will be adding a total of 55 Captain and 30 First Officer positions. At the category level, ATL-M88 will see 30 Captains and 15 F/Os, MSP will have 10 Captains and 10 F/Os, while NYC will have 15 Captains and 5First Officers. |
