I don't disagree with you about Airbus. But until our merger threats diminish, more pay banding equals ratios moving further up the list with an Alaska Airlines type merger.
Carl WRT an AK merger, if we had longevity based pay, I would even be willing to give them DOH in a merger. It is a unique case however, but it would work there because they have a significant number of pilots that drive to work to fly the 737. Why would they commute halfway across the country to fly the 747 if their pay is the same?? Unless they have a woody for that airplane, (and believe it or not, not everybody does) why would they enter a commuting world? I digress. |

Hoping Slowplay will jump in here with a C2012 scope comparison. I'm too lazy to do it today & have to work jobs # 2 & #3. But, my guess is that we're a lot better off under C2012.

I think merger mania has seriously been quelled with this DOJ lawsuit against AMR/LCC. I believe it will go through, but there will be some divestiture because the politicos want to ensure there is "enough" competition in the skies over America. Maybe in the long run it is a good thing for us since a duopoly... (what is the version of -opoly when there are 3?... Ahh nevermind, let's call it manage-a-trois) would result in more justification for cabotage. And the last thing we need is a state funded rag head airline flying between JFK and LAX..... (And I don't have to be PC either, they will be handed our jobs if cabotage becomes a reality, and you better bet that Chuck Shumer would like nothing more..... so if that offends you ( not you Carl) then KMA).

If they pay the same (or more) and they bring over their own jets that will also pay that higher rate, WGAS? Are there really that many folks concerned that they may never get to the 767 fleet because they are stuck on a 737-9 even though they would pay exactly the same in your scenario?
So you are actually proposing that we should favor a lower pay rate for a given fleet on the off chance that we merge with another company that has that fleet as well, and the SL arbitrators are somehow cowed into believing that a similar pay rate makes two fleets similar in terms of desirability/QOL to pilots? I just don't follow your logic in this case, and my answer is "Yes, I would love to see the 737-9 and A-321 pay the same as a 767." Saw, What you are saying probably won't matter to arbitrators in a SLI, is probably the main thing they are concerned with. If we pay a 737-900 captain the same ad a 747-400/-777 captain, you pretty much assure a merger with Alaska will result in a SLI where the #1 Alaska pilot gets merged right behind our #1 B-777 or B-744 captain. |
Obama has answered the concerns that his desire to strike Syria has to do with his drawing of a red line last year if Syria used chemical weapons. Obama and Kerry have answered those concerns by reminding everyone that Obama never drew any red lines on this topic.

Dang, I see you've even replied a 2nd time before this! The football penalty metaphor implies tongue in cheek humor, you know? So here: Very glad about the aircraft announcement, let's all hope for the best and that the scenario plays out as a good amount of growth, though none of us can predict all the variables or how much mgt caution is just sensible management of wall street. Better? "Go johnso, Go johnso!" |
