Do you think the monitors will be any brighter?
I was so tired of the eye strain, I decided to sacrifice my hearing and go back to the Boeing. (The tray table was nice.) The top picture is what we have now, in fact that's NW bird. The lower picture is the new LCD screens. They are larger, you can see them in the daytime, and they actually dim to a reasonable level at night. The new planes are equipped with the fully automatic radar like what is on the new delivery 737s and 777s. That fixes the two things I like least about fifi: The crappy radar and the screens that are too dim in the day and don't dim enough at night. |

Really? Here on APC? Now, with a new aircraft order, DPA vs. DALPA, UAL SLI, and pay banding for a future merger to discuss? Come on, Carl. Give it a rest. :D

I don't disagree with you about Airbus. But until our merger threats diminish, more pay banding equals ratios moving further up the list with an Alaska Airlines type merger.

Asked and answered numerous times. Recalling reps doesn't matter because Mr. Moak has yet again proven that reps don't matter. Our union under Mr. Moak has no local control of itself whatsoever. Mr. Moak continues to foster outsourcing of our jobs in his vain attempt to gain worldwide control of the pilot labor market. I have no say, you have no say, and our reps have no say. When you understand that, you'll understand I have no interest in chasing my tail "fixing ALPA from within" when there is so much work left to do in freeing ourselves from an ALPA so set on giving away our treasure to reach its goal.

What if a merger doesn't happen? Pay banding simplifies things. It also helps the company make more money which could end up in our pockets.
1. reducing the pilot desire to move between planes due to pay differences 2. which results in less training 3. which results in less pilots being off the line at training 4. which both result in less pilots needed 5. which all three result in cost savings to the company 6. which ALSO all result in stagnation for pilots, less QOL options, and fewer pilots being hired. So you seriously think it would be a good thing to take an absolute reduction in pay, QOL, and advancement for the pilots, and then HOPE that somehow mgt will take that $$ and give it to the pilots via some unspecified contract win, rather than say buying GOL, Virgin Atlantic, stock buyback, mgt bonuses, or stockholder dividends. Having a lottery could result somebody getting more money which could end up in my pocket TOO (if I happen to have an unknown relative or benefactor that wins, and then wills it all to me), but it's probably not a good basis for my financial planning. |
Memo from Steve Dickson, with good sounding words. This makes me optimistic:
"As I told the pilots in the lounge today, these are growth aircraft and they will increase our pilot staffing needs over the next several years. Stay tuned for more details. In the meantime, we expect to post an Advance Entitlement bid this week that will contain new narrowbody captain positions and we'll continue to post a series of small AEs for the foreseeable future as we take deliveries of the 717 and 737-900." Let's hear some guesses/predictions on what will be on the AE for numbers, both for ER B reductions and for vacancies? |
