Dial it back? How about you tell the same to the Negative Nancy crowd that dive bombs every shred of good news with doomsday predictions? Everyone knows some B757s will be parked. That's old news. Does anyone honestly think management is going to tell the jittery Wall Street folk that these are pure growth aircraft? They'll freak out and dump our stock. Management has to be very careful about how they announce this to Wall Street.
Johnso, this may come as a complete shock to you, but many of us have been hearing this type of announcement for many more years than you have worked here. This will be about my 4th time in my 28 years working for Delta. In 1987, we heard Unprecedented Growth! They bought Western. In 1991, we heard Delta would soon be the "World Airline of Choice" they bought Pan Am. In 2001, we heard RJ's are saving Delta, they bought Com Air and ASA. And as soon as Richard showed up at Delta, he said, "I was not brought here to merge with North West." until we did, and the Synergy has been outstanding; 7+5=10. That is what Capacity Discipline got us. This kind of happy talk has preceded a merger in just about every case. So like I said, bring on Hawaiian! |

Geez tough crowd.
We've all been giddy for this order for months now and people are fighting over it. Take it for what it's worth. Good news for now. ;) |

Crew resources said there would be 10 less 757's in 2014. Why don't you go argue with them?

The 321's will replace the 757's, the A330's will replace the older 767ER's. Here's what Scambo had to say last year about posts like yours:

Yup, the fleet plan changed. It will change again. But Timbo got on here and said something "will" happen. Where's your correction of that bad assertion? btw, the fleet plan change added 40 aircraft by 2017... Maybe you guys ought to dial it back a bit on the certitude. And thanks again for demonstrating your "fair and balanced" approach.:D I was only repeating what the Fleet guys have been telling us for months. Can they change their minds? Of course. If the European economy gets better, if oil prices come down, if US Unemployment drops, if, if, if... In the mean time, I'll take Richard at his Capacity Discipline word. |
Slowpaly, are you promising me they WILL NOT park any more 757's or 767's??
I nominate Slowplay for head of Crew Resources! Can I get a Second?? |

I've been burned before, so I don't tend to believe good news until verified. So maybe a fleet plan isn't good enough. In that case, and the standard is "verifiable" when it comes to optimism, then I assume you guys will use the same standard when it comes to pessimism on APC. No crying like a bunch of silly little [deleted] over unverified rumors and innuendos going forward.
Fair? |

Capacity discipline refers to more then just mainline. And you didn't say "some" 757s either. Thus far, we know of about 30 or so B757s that will be parked. In total, the rumor is 75 B757s to be parked. So lets say they park 75 B757s, 40 A320s, & all 16 767-300s. That's 131 aircraft being parked. Now, we are accepting delivery of 100 B737-900ERs, 30 A321s, and 10 A330s. That's still a net gain of 9 airplanes. And it doesn't count the MD90s.
But based on what management us telling Wall Street, including what they've filed with the SEC, it'll be much more. Well let's hope so, but given what I've seen from Richard so far, I expect another merger long before we'll see any organic growth. The one thing for certain is, they are parking a bunch of 50 seat RJ's and replacing them with the 717's, and finally hiring pilots, which is good. The rest remains to be seen as of yet. |
