Why did hiring that was promised in the fall of 2012 not happen until 2014? No hiring was ever promised in the fall of 12. The statement was we might begin the hiring process in the fall of 12. Classes were never planned until winter 13. That hiring was only planned to be 100 to 150 pilots to staff the 717. The company blocked first quarter hiring for reasons discussed here before. |
I've been reading these reserve calcs. I don't really know much about the tricks of reserve...
is it advantageous to bid reserve in a month you have vacation? (22.45 1 week) Does some carry-in help? (8.45) Sounds like, with a week of vacation, you still are on the hook for 13 days reserve on call, and 10 X days (off). That doesn't seem like much of a break? As a lineholder, I figure you'd only be working 15 days usually; you'd be on the hook for 40-55 hours with ALV of 78.30. I figure that means 2 4-days and maybe 1 2-day or 3-day for 8-11 days work. So the tradeoff is potentially 11 days of known work, for 12 days POSSIBLE work (13 days on call minus 1 day carry in)? If they're likely to use you, seems like having a say in what I do those 12 days and some advance planning ability would be better than reserve option? How many short calls would you get in those 12 days reserve on-call, forcing you to commute up to work anyways? Just trying to figure reserve out as an ever-nearer possibility for me as I get pushed closer to the bottom of lineholders. Thanks! |

Over 400 net new captains positions have now been bid since the contact was signed. It seems like almost every flight I have copilots who are leaving for a CA bid. I am seeing lots of friends in the lounge now wearing 4 stripes. It's a really nice thing to see!! |

Dude the union was pushing BIG hiring push in the fall of 2012 during the C12 roadshows and in the lounges. It is a fact that it didn't happen the way they were selling it. The union can't make that promise but they certainly played the whole "I have inside information" inferring this. Regardless it did not take much thought to look at the fleet plan and current manning and get a pretty good idea of future hiring. |

Dude, the negotiator notepads and Roadshow slides are on the DALPA website, could you source where in any of that massive amount of information put out the "union" was "pushing BIG hiring" in the fall of 2012?

You can however view it yourself. It does not match what you post. Here is DALPA's last line summary of the PDF. /////Bottom line is neutral staffing impact with no fleet growth – Additional aircraft and block hour growth will drive need for hiring.//// They do lay out exactly when that fleet growth was going to occur. |

I am not sure about west coast stuff... Not saying I am satisfied with progression, just presenting accurate info. |

Fwiw, 16-18 years would put you around the 6000 number. That number had been able to hold captain as a line holder for several years and the ER in NYC on reserve. 6000 is very deep into the lines in NYC, DTW and ATL..
