Glad Moak brought up pay as a barrier to entry.

Agreed.

"There may be a shortage of qualified pilots who are willing to fly for U.S. airlines because of the industry's recent history of instability, poor pay and benefits," Moak said.

Trainer is living up to expectations as far as I know. It was never meant to be a profit center, but rather to give us better control of our fuel costs. It is really amazing how much we spend on fuel. Every $.01 in cost is a huge number to the bottom line.

We are in it for the 250 million purchase price plus ongoing losses. I believe last quarter was the first one where it made money. The losses have been substantial. In addition while it lowered our fuel prices in the NE the increased jet fuel availability lowered our competitors prices a equal amount.

I had a guy on the jumpseat who said there might be a deal with a certain South American country that might make the refinery profitable. Have you heard anything about this?

Quick question.....

Considering bidding a reserve line for March. I have 10 hours of carry in, 4 days of vacation, and 3 days of training. Reserve guarantee would be 76:30. Would I get paid more due to the proration? Or would I get paid 76:30?

I think you are looking at 76:30. Be proactive on where you request your x-days, depending upon your goals.

Wow! I thought you were being sarcastic. Then I went and read the article. He actually DID say that!

Good job, Moak! It's about time. But you know what they say... baby steps. Maybe he's finally starting to get it. Most encouraging thing I've seen come out of ALPA in years.

Assuming you're Delta, your reserve guarantee would be 76:30 / 30 * 23 = 58:39. Added to this would be the value of your vacation and training, or 58:39 + 13:00 + 11:15 = 82:54. Ten of the days outside your carry in, vacation, and training would be X-days.

That's what I thought. Thanks Scambo!

Alan for the win! I think I just reverted to the old way of thinking, thanks for picking up my dropped ball.
