What did Bar call them? The woven graphite Tupperware death tube?

Timbo 02-25-2014 07:51 PM

I like what the UAL guys are calling them:

"Ole' Sparky"

Or how about; "The Plastic Fantastic"

United has a bunch of those things taxing around in LAX. That is one good looking airplane.

pretty sure saying what number you are for takeoff is OK, but i'm talking about the guys that ramble on for a minute or so, talk about the wx at destination and what not.

I don't advertise my books or offer lap dances. :D

Although the thought has crossed my mind.;)

SOPA = Vol 1 Section 20 Amplified Procedures. SMAC = Flight Crew Training Manual.

That's all SOPA/SMAC ever was at NWA. The idea of the rigidity of NWA procedures has created this urban legend in the eyes of South pilots as to what SOPA/SMAC was. I still have a copy of my fleet SOPA/SMAC from NWA. It is virtually identical to my DAL Vol 1 Section 20 and my FCTM, right down to the graphics.

Vol 1 has tables that specify CA/FO and PF/PM actions, callouts, responses, etc. THAT is precisely what SOPA was at NWA.

FCTM has amplified discussions of maneuvers including full page graphics of various procedures such as takeoff profiles, engine out profiles, etc. THAT is precisely what SMAC was at NWA.

This is mostly correct, however the rigidity of application (e.g. this switch is listed prior to this switch, therefore you must move them in that order) is not the same.... nor should it be. That's what people mean by saying "this is not SOPA/SMAC."

It is perfectly acceptable and sanctioned to give a brief welcome along with the "flight attendants please be seated for departure," for example.. and the FAA has no legs to give you any grief over it. Don't go overboard, though.. but it was left gray for a reason.

Most of the CAs I fly with on fifi are great about giving a welcome aboard PA, and there's no entertainment system to interrupt en route (my sexy voice that they so want to hear more of is the entertainment), so it is extremely rare for me to say more than the number and the scripted PA... however on the 757/767, guys didn't do it as much. So I'd tack on time en route to the PA. Nothing excessive, nor nothing that you could get in trouble for either.

UAL buddy said they call the lax based 787's "the scab wagon"

Boeing looks to sell off 787 ‘terrible teens’ | Business & Technology | The Seattle Times

One more decent news story on the "terrible teens."

Name like that brings back memories of the "twisted sisters."

I could ultimately care less what somebody else decides to do on their takeoff pa. Their decision, not mine.

Some on here were talking about "black helicopters" in regards to the faa going after somebody about it, like there is no way it could ever happen. I was providing info that it has happened.
