C2012 allows Delta to outsource flying to Alaskan Airlines.
Delta has decided not to do that. What Delta is now going to do is compete against Alaskan requiring SEA growth and hey we need to hold on to jets we were going to retire.
So clearly the reason we're expanding is because of C2012.

...and what might those be? The last comparisons we all saw showed that our work rules are very much in line with other major carriers, particularly now that AA and UAL have matched our contract.
It is my understanding that our overstaffing has led to more reserve guarantee being paid out than at other airlines, and that our long trips have resulted in more trip credit. I see no way of resolving either of those productivity issues without lowering trip credit and/or reserve guarantee to something less than our competitors.
Not interested. I believe it's all in the fleet plan, which according to the slide show at recent PUB events is giving Delta a 7% premium over industry-average fares. That's huge, and is almost certainly well worth the productivity premium they pay us.

Anyone know when reserves will be made whole for the PD issue regarding part 117? I just checked my paycheck for 6/13/14 and it wasn't in there.

Talking about the company's choice to have so many different aircraft types, here is what SD says in his latest update. (Emphasis mine)
"Delta’s fleet strategy is unique in the airline industry, and our ability to efficiently integrate and operate almost any aircraft type gives us tremendous leverage in the aircraft marketplace."
"Aircraft are costly assets. Delta’s Fleet Team spends countless hours analyzing what’s in the company’s best interest when it comes to which aircraft should be in our fleet."
The company is making a very conscious choice to run many fleets. Any pilot inefficiency is due to management's choice to run an inefficient fleet make up.
