What are bump in rights? I can't seem to find any reference to them anywhere in the contract.

If you are displaced from a category you can bump anywhere your seniority can hold. There is also some bumping ability returning from long term absences like mil leave or disability.

For the paranoid.

I saw "FBI surv van" on my laptop one morning when I was home. 30 minutes later I saw an AT&T van parked on the street behind my house with two guys up front eating lunch giving me the eyeball as I drove by. I was paranoid the rest of the week.

That's a joke, right? Why would they move an entire category (and displace, and re-train) to ATL for... one departure per day?

The ATL 777 cat. has been slowly migrating to DTW, it seems to be the Asia bird of choice, but they don't want to displace (and retrain) the entire ATL 777 category all at once, so they are doing it through attrition vs. displacements. They have not replaced a single retired ATL 777 Capt. since Cal left, 16 months ago, and I know at least 13 others have retired since then, with several more coming this summer. No ATL 777 A/E's though, only DTW.

I'm very, very junior 777 in ATL. Every time there is a bid with displacements, I feel like the fish in a blender.

God forbid I have to go back to school.

Another question since I am on the topic, what is the funniest network name you've seen blasted through the neighborhood? After we had a recurring problem I set mine to "Your dog poops in my yard" and set the power to the maximum supported ... three neighbors commented it was funnier than hell, one neighborr got mad, but at least they keep their dog in their own yard now.

Not a network story, but in real life I had a neighbor that let their dog crap in my yard. I never *****ed about it, because I wanted to keep the peace.

I sold the house (because my neighbors were a-holes in every other way) and the guy that bought it ratted out my neighbors to the association within a week. The next week they installed a view killing massive fence and used it to confiscate the balls of my neighbors kids that always ended up in my yard.

I love that guy. He had the same house up for sale within six months.

Don't know if it's legit, but still funny.

OK, I fess up, I was just joking about 744's to ATL :D did hear the training center part though. The paranoia on 744 fleet seems to run deep. I've heard in the last week:

-moving the 744 to ATL
-closing CVG coincident with 744 going un-fenced AE so as to enjoy bump in and,
-something like 40 S. pilots on disability with seniority to fly Capt on 744 who will come back with bump in post fence.

The problem with all these is they falsely assume everyone who can will want to fly the 744 and they are all maneuvering the chess board to get on it.

There are a few paranoid guys on the 747 who have asked me, "When the fence comes down, how many of you 777 guys are going to bid it??"

I can honestly say, none that I know of. That goes for the F/O's too, not a single pilot I've flown with since the merger has ever said, "I can't wait for that fence to come down so I can bid the 747!"

There are several reasons why I have no desire to bid it, and from talking to other 777 guys, they agree:

1. going back to school for no pay raise
2. commuting to DTW in the winter (vs. ATL)
3. the 9-12 day trips they have

Now, I do know of one senior guy on the 767-400 who told me he will bid the 747 as soon as the fence comes down. I asked him why not bid the 777 instead, he said, "Ever since I was a kid, I always wanted to fly it..."

So, I guess there are a few of those types out there who might do it for both a pay raise and the thrill of the whale, but I'm to lazy too go two school, for no raise, and then have to watch 4 engines again! :D
