Cue Morgan Freeman voice: And after a long trek, the baby 737's were parched and cautiously headed to the river for much needed water.

You can't make a better argument for Boeing going back to in house.

One more thing. To get around the NW pilots scope clause, NWA ordered 44 seat RJs. They were 50 seat jets with 6 seats removed and some closets installed. The FAA said, "different type!" This triggered negotiations for the Pinnacle pilots, and the company wanted a 12% pay cut for the pilots to fly those planes because they produced 12% fewer seats per flight, with the corresponding reduction of ASMs. Doh!

That's actually an old management trick that has largely been defeated. The size component of an AC should be based off max certifiable as well as gross weight, etc. They can (and almost always do) choose to install a lot less than that. But so what.

Why do you think they found a regional pilot to run, and that sends letters addressing regional pilots every week? If DALPA wants to save the ALPA presidency, they are going to have to run ACL65 against Heidie.

Or DL could just leave and let UAL hold the bag.

That has nothing to do with DPA by the way. But if UAL or whoever thinks they can ram something down DL's throat with some lame populist majority, then "when in the course of human events…"

I don't want to wait and get assigned a 4 day trip tomorrow and then have a problem. I would like to be there, paid or not, but the reserves required/avail for my category is upside down all month so dropping the day of reserve is not an option. Is the CPSC staffed this time of night and is that who I call? Or do I just call scheduling? Thanks for any help, E

Call CPSC. Do not call scheduling. They should answer the phone. If not, call the duty pilot.

Hey,

Big E, I'm sorry for your loss. Call the CPSC and let them know what's going on. From my past experiences, the worst that can happen is you get a PD for your reserve days or assigned trip.

Don't sweat it. If you need to be, you will be there.

You can't fly if your mind is somewhere else and the good news is, they seem to know it.

Authorized Personal Drop would be my plan A.

Others have already posted plan B.

... and yeah, whatever you do, don't call scheduling; only call to avoid a trip failure. Then tell them "family emergency." They will tell you to expect a CPO call, which is what you plan to do anyway.

When my daughter was born those jerks put me on long term leave (essentially fired from Delta ... no paycheck ... no benefits ... insurance cancelled). In reality I simply used my vacation under the FMLA and did not miss a single trip. But Delta stopped paying me for trips I was out flying .... finally I went into the CPO and told them "hey, if you want me to pretend to work, you have to pretend to pay me." Fixed the next day.

Some scheduling folks are just plain mean individuals (and some are nice). Much better to let the CPO handle them, than have the CPO have to deal with them once they decide on a plan of action.

As you probably know, the Company can get the airplane re-certified to a lower limit with a phone call, a fax machine and a mechanic to make the log book entry and placard the flight deck. Recertification of the Republic E Jets takes <5 minutes.

We also had the Company blocking off seats from reservations ... which sucked for commuters and non revs.

The only correct answer is to staff the airplanes with Delta pilots. All other solutions are inefficient, nonsensical to comply with and risk failing the instant there is an economic downturn and the Company "needs" the revenue without the "expense."

We (ALPA) just needs to get out of the business of selling some (poorly paid) members' careers so as to benefit other (much better paid) members.

I have a 7dy BOS/CDG-o-rama & would like to take wife and 13yo daughter.

1. Any problem with 2 extra in room at Rivre Gauche?

2. Crew rate for the 2nts they stay in CDG while I go back and forth to BOS?

Thanks!

Most of the rooms have two small double beds so one room is workable. The rooms with a king are desired so you will have no issue getting two doubles. The hotel can be sold out this time of year so give them a call in advance to book the extra days. Not sure about crew rate. They can't ride the bus to the hotel but can ride on the return. If it's a weekday going back however getting them there in time for the 90 minute cutoff to checkin can be a issue. The SEA crew leaves 10 minutes earlier so I would talk to the crew and go on that bus. The Boston flight attendants believe pickup time is when you get to the lobby and get in line for coffee, sandwiches ect.. Bus rarely leaves on time.
