Uh oh Mike. Now you've done it.
I know it is going to be a fun day when some new guy questions FTBs skills at military aircraft recognition. FTB, Timbo, 80kts and a few others are resident experts on the fine art of fighter jet recce here on APC. There's a tradition that goes back several years. Obviously we have some new guys that are not aware of their expertise. Maybe we can get FTB to post a primer on how to spot an F-15.. And BTW, it was not a MiG. It was clearly a C-130 painted to look like a MiG. http://cdn.moviestillsdb.com/sm/8047...iron-eagle.jpg |

I read the book and plan on seeing the movie but a few things in the book that really rubbed me the wrong way.
His teammates all talk about what a quiet, unassuming, modest professional Chris Kyle was. In the book, several times, he talks about getting in bar fights all the time with the other seals, beating the shhhh crap out of local guys. These guys are trained killers and they're getting in fights all the time? I have more respect for our special forces guys than to believe they were out getting in fights on weekends just for sport. There were other instances where it felt like he was being boastful, which was contrary to what everyone says his character was. I am still pumped to see the movie, it looks well done and I love military/war movies. Personally, it's very difficult for me to watch movies like this. I don't "enjoy" them. But I watch so I can understand--if only a little--the sacrifices Chris Kyle and his comrades made for us. ymmv |

Those pesky pointy nose jets are tough ones to identify. I'm proud to serve those who served on the proper recognition of the planes they should know.

He claims they were getting in fights while they were in training at bars in Coronado and Little Creek before ever being deployed from what I remember. Maybe it was just filler or his ghostwriter took his own literary license to fill in some gaps, I don't know. |

More or less pathetic than having a crew pull off to the side of the taxiway in SEA to investigate whether they had a proper takeoff alternate? :D
Ha ha :D Well, less of course. After all, it's obvious there is just no way outsiders can handle that place..... :D (disclaimer for the over-sensitive: That post was a joke, responding to a joke, not meant to be true. Timbo,
I reserve the right to return to my trusted stead as a Mad Dog Commander in the future...thus...I shall, and always will be... "The Dog Whisperer"...not to mention that I can't find anything else that matches my initials... Just finished my first TOE on the 76 and man...does my head hurt!!! A lot different than following I-20 to Birmingham. May have to get a world map to expand my "Where in the world have I taken a dump?" display, too. Well, I didn't get to see American Sniper... it wasn't at the same theater as "Paddington", which ALSO opened today. I was outvoted 4 to 1 by the rest of the family, so off to Paddington we went.
But! At the last moment as we bought tickets, I saw "Blackhat" was playing at the same time, and was able to send wife and kids into Paddington with sodas and popcorn and smiles, and dodge into "Blackhat". Not sure how I feel about the movie, it was surely a thrill ride though, good action. My wife would have enjoyed Chris Hemsworth more than me, but he did well as action hero without a hammer (Thor). Whole thing takes place in China/Jakarta/Malaysia, gave me a new respect for their burgeoning cities and societies if accurate. |

Wasn't in the cards for me.
Also I too hated to sit NYC reserve and then commute back to SEA. But much like the military, we need to pay our dues in our new career. I am sure we all have some bad crash pad stories to tell, best over a few beers.... One thing to add about NYC, you might fly with some of the best guys at DAL there, so have some fun! Cheers and welcome aboard! |

Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
How was Paddington? Need to take kids to a movie.
I didn't get the joke, but didn't find a beat down by a herring a viable threat |
