No, Q trips are for pick up only.

I have swapped into Q trips. Maybe it was because coverage was good. I know of others who have also had successful swaps into Q trips.

. Well... yeah, if there is coverage, you are essentially dropping your trip and picking up the other trip on different days.

I was thinking he was talking about 'swapping' on same days, with the guy who owned the trip, as you would with the P2P swap board.

With different days, lots of coverage, yes, that type of swap should work.

So about 27 years ago, I'm a brand new 727 F/O. We are flying into CLE. I've never been into Cleveland, but it's daylight, clear, and about 20 miles out ATC says, "Got the runway?". Cap.t reply's., "Yup".

I don't see it yet, and I've got no 'landmarks' so I start down..... and down... and I got to about 2000' and figured I'd better wait until I see it before I go any lower.

I look at the Capt. and ask, "You've been here before right, you've seen it, right?".

He said, "Not from THIS angle...".

The Engineer busts up laughing, the Capt. lost composure... and I yelled,

"Well where the FK is it!??".

He points and says, "Over THERE!".

I was too low, too far out, which is why I couldn't see it. But I still laugh when I think about it today.

"Not from this angle".

Classic. :D

He was a great guy to fly with too. I miss him.

I wish in funky times I could come up with that kind of hunor.

If this makes you feel better. In 2004 the election was on and I was based in CLE for Coex. It was right at the start of a morning bank and ramp tower tells everyone if you can get going you'll be able to get out before AF1 comes in and we sit the place down. So we all rush and about halfway through the push we get the all stop where you are call.

So I flip over to tower to listen in and here AF1 come in. Obviously we can hear tower but not AF1... or maybe it was approach. I can't totally remember but the sequence went like this:

ATC: Air Force 1 Cleveland Hopkins is at your 12 o'clock and 10 miles call it in sight.

It's now 8 miles and 12 o'clock call it in sight...

6 miles and 12 o'clock low call it in sight...

4 miles and 12 o'clock call it in sight...

Yes you are cleared to make a Right 360...

You are cleared the visual and cleared to land.

:D I think they also cleared them lower each time. ATC always seems to think lower makes it easier to see.

I agree with you. I see it all the time on the -88. I used to call it to the captain's attention. I stopped speaking up unless I really fear for my safety because I have found that guys know exactly what they are doing and are doing it intentionally. Most guys just ignored me. Was this taught in the military? Honest question because it is not an anomoly or one individual. I feel like I'm in the minority vertical speeding with the g/s until capture.

Sometimes things that are "legal" are not very smart or good for your health. Like smoking pot in Colorada. This from a guy who grew up in the 60's and went to Woodstock.

I just can't wait to see what's in DBMS at sign-in today.

Prior to landing, crews shall lower the landing gear?

Or......Pilots should learn to say YES..............to a go around if it becomes necessary.

Hmmm. Good point. It could be military. If we were "visual" we were visual. Vert speed to the GS works great. Or, I just spin in the next published altitude constraint for the base or dogleg intercept.
