The removal of offline flights as a viable commuting option is a huge negative for NYC especially. What percentage of NYC based pilots use an offline commute as part of their plan with a Delta backup? How many former Dallas pilots commute on American with a Delta backup? That would include me. Since the wife is a 'Sky Goddess' with AA, I get a higher priority for boarding and better intel on seat availability. Still, it's a very 'sporty' commute, and getting harder. DFW |

Does anyone else find the timing of the rewritten Commuting Policy in the FOM (Ch. 11, Sec. 5) a bit suspicious? Maybe DALPA has a plan for some concessions to restore the status quo.

How many pilots are stuck with an AE from the last few bids they would not consider under the revised policy? I'll start the count at 1. |

The FOM guidance for not extending on FAR117 also changed in the same revision.
It looks likes he company expects us to extend as long as necessary, up to the max. Electing not to extend appears to be subjected to the same harassment as calling in "fatigued." Can anyone confirm this? Sounds like another status quo violation. Where's Dalpa to call out this crap? |

Where's Dalpa to call out this crap? http://www.faa.gov/about/office_org/...rpretation.pdf Long story short, the way I read it is that, unless we specifically negotiate provisions regarding extensions, then the company is free to do what they are doing. Sucks, but it's not ALPA's fault. |
Quick newbie non-rev question as the fam heads out on a trip tomorrow. Buddy-quette says "relaxed" dress code. Clean jeans and sneakers OK even if they get upgraded?
We're pretty conservative dressers in general and everytime they've traveled before even the kids have been in what would qualify in the FOM for business attire. But this time it's to a very casual destination and we're trying to pack as light as possible. I'm going in jumpseat-legal clothing just in case, but I figure no reason to pack another set of clothes and shoes for everyone else if not needed. |
The agent will decide if you are upgradable, I have seen shorts and deck shoes no socks, in first.(Intl). Normally jeans and a golf shirt will get you there.

Why even have an extension if you can just force one to take it.
Sent from my crib. |

Yes, I understand the FOM is outside of the contract. I just find the timing of a stricter commuting policy interesting. Post two AE bids that involve making commuting decisions, then change the policy right before the most difficult time of year for commuting. Maintaining the status quo in the contract, can then be considered a "win" at the negotiating table for DALPA.
NYC is the most difficult base to staff and also has the largest number of offline commuters. Who is the genius that decided to make offline commuting less desirable? Many NYC commuting plans include a mix of JetBlue and American with Delta backups. Under the new policy American and Jet Blue are no longer options the company considers viable. |

Uh commuting is a choice remember. What if the company just up and said we all had to live in base? What would you do then?
