Okay. I get to shadow bid for February. I've left the Douglas fleet. How should one shadow bid anyways if you know you won't be done with OE until mid month? Do I just pack my trips in the beginning of the month? It shows 7 days of shadow on the schedule and 9 days of sim worth very little.

Your PBS Committee has put in a lot of hard work addressing just these sorts of questions. Hopefully this will help.

You want to bid a bunch of high time trips in the shadow period. When you do your OE, they drop the trips, but you get paid the higher credit. I just went through this. Bid a 4 and 5 day trip. Flew a 2 and 3 day trip for OE but got paid for the longer trips. Good luck, and may the odds be always in your favor.

When scheduling assigns short calls, do they start with days-available (like when assigning trips)? Or is it straight seniority of all available pilots? Or is it a mix (ie, using a mix of 1-4 days available, by seniority within each day)?

That's what I was thinking. Thanks.

Yes. Not to be frivolous, but there are no contractual guidelines for short call scheduling, it is up to the individual scheduler on how he wants to schedule a category's short calls on any given day. Which will certainly change from yesterday. Or be different tomorrow.

I have 9 PB days that I couldn't use and will be turned into supplemental vacation. When bidding my primary vacation PBS wanted to know if I wanted those days at the beginning or end of my vacation. Since I am pretty junior I have no idea what vacation I'll be awarded so I just left it blank. Will I be able to add those days on subsequent rounds of vacation bidding?

Just call the vacation planners after all the vacation is bid and they'll move them around. But do it before the vacation year starts!

The student copy of the DIG leaves some critical things out.

That picture was taken in the OC1 men's bathroom with all the "grout" puns written in the grout above the urinal.
