Assuming that mama DAL needs a response, could a C series order be far off? Or is UAL simply going on a spending spree ala TWA before auguring in?

Here's a bold prediction, not one of those planes will be delivered to "UAL". I think this was United trying to holler "We are still here and relevant!"

and they may just be getting the slots now while they're cheap so that they can sell them for more down the road as the economy recovers.

Estimating 263 lines with 58 on reserve (18% of the MSP B's on reserve seems about normal). Our ALV's have been high ever since Bid Period 5, I think we have been higher than the M88 every month.

Seems to me when ALVs go high you have more on reserve flying 40 hours a month and getting paid 70, when ALVs are low then everyone is closer to 70ish. If we're short staffed then ALVs are high plus there are greenslips. So wouldn't ideal staffing from the company's standpoint be min ALV, correct reserves, no greenslips?

The company has to stay within the TLV (12 month rolling average of ALVs), which is 74-79 hours.

So, they can have high ALVs in the summer, but has to matched by lower ALVs in the winter. As you're a MD88 pilot, I'm sure you're aware of the LOA that allowed the company some relief on the ALV/TLV for your category.

Example the flights that are covered for 7ER B ATL for a a certain time period?

If you are at work and use the DAL computer, you can see all the departures for a given station. I don't think you can select specific equip and certainly not category coverage. From the pull-down Departments tab select OCC and then Flight Info by Station. This will not work from a personal computer.

Question on the new phase 5 manuals:

Do they update our copy of the Quick Reference Handbook when changes are made? I am sure glad I don't have to fly over the Dec Jan transition and carry both sets of books :)

Go to your fleet page and then on the bottom middle fill out the form for QRH updates. That is the only way they will send you the updates. If not it stays as it is.

The "real QRH" is in the a/c. So, you don't have to carry a QHR.

I just realized the problem, the DAL-S QRH's have a nice plastic ring binder that you can open and close to put in updates. The one that I got today is spiral bound and thus impossible to make updates to. Ughhh

Thanks for the link ACL, I will sign up.

Yes, but it is nice to have a reference prior to CQ.

Also you can ask for a new binder.

I think the SLC 767 will be gone before they convert it. Having the 767, 737, and 320 category in SLC doesn't make much sense since from SLC they can use the 320 to do almost all of the domestic flying that the 757 and 800 do. That would free up the 800's and 757's for other "stuff". I've heard some rumblings of this from some LCA.

Look back about 500 pages. I agree. 100%

Been talking to crew resources quite a bit lately due to my impending return from mil leave. Earlier this week they said the bid was going to be out NLT the 12th. Then today they said the 15th. As far as the training backlog, apparently it's not as bad as has been claimed. I'm back on the payroll 1 Jan, start indoc on the 14th, and start 755 training on 3 Feb. Interestingly enough, my indoc is in MSP, but my 755 training is in ATL. I asked what they expected as far as growth of the DTW 755 category, but they were really tight-lipped about it.

Hopefully when that happens we'll see a like increase in the number of pilots on the 320 or SLC will become untouchable for all but those with 10-15 years of seniority. I'd actually prefer a 320 base with about 300 per seat over three small categories like we currently have. Throw a small 330 category in there to cover CDG, NRT, and the rumored AMS and I'd be happy.

Interestingly, the LGA terminal shuffle will be delayed to April (originally Feb) and most of the increase will be with regional equip. USA will get 3 gates at the end of our current terminal D.

Define crew. Four or two......

Four man is 72 bodies

If it is 72 additional bodies, that sounds like the size base I've been hearing about.

As for the A330 sim, If we bought one today it would take 15-18 months to get it up and running assuming it would be in MSP. We do have Sim time in Manchester England and some limited time in Miami. Nor sure where you heard Feb.

Yes but if it is previously certified, it takes about two months to rebuild it and certify.

You also assume that we had not placed an order a long long time ago ;) (JK)

That bottom Lizard has a tatoo that says "ATL 4EVER". Notice its size, you can tell from that picture that the top one is a NY Lizard, or MSP or DTW Lizard. The LAX Lizard is getting high out back and nobody's decided what to do with him yet but he could or should be a bigger lizzard. The Ohio Lizard already got run over. The SLC Lizard would never allow themselves to be in the presence of such fornication. The MEM Lizard is a cameleon hoping nobody notices it is or is not there. There is a rumor of a polynesian lizard that the NYC lizard might be wise not to lick.

I mean honestly, don't get me wrong, MSP might be more my style of a place to live... I like the cold... NYC would be my favorite (especially after the LGA swap and JFK terminal 4) if I made 5X what you make here. But thanks to the wonderful state of Alabama and my wife's roots in Atlanta I will forever bid ATL.

I don't remember the North system ever posting the amount of positions for our awards. They just ran every month on the 5th and you had to call planning to see how many of anything they expected.

I think many of us Northies are just asking a lot of questions because we a scared. :D
