I know of one specific example very recently. BL....all the mil guys need to know USERRA laws, and be as fair as you can to DAL. 100% honesty is assumed. With that said, folks should not be afraid to get the union, ESGR, and a whole bunch of other people involved to crush someones nuts if you are being harassed while operating on the right side of the law. It is LAW. Not some MOU. As an honorably serving officer, you deserve to be treated as such.

It is usually an individual manager with a problem, not the company. Most mil guys know who those individuals are.

Thanks everone. The reserve rules are so much better than where I came from that I had an inclination to think they're more forgiving than they are. I'm extremely glad to be here and do not plan to be "one of those guys". My plan will be to get into a really cheap crash pad (probably the kind where you have to put plastic bags on your feet before you get into the shower) so that I always have a place to sleep in DTW. Augment this with hotels and hope I get called a lot.

I consider myself to be pretty lucky. Once we get everyone through training I'll have about 30 people below me on the 320 in DTW.

I think you have the right idea. Always play it safe, especially during probation.

Welcome aboard, Mike! :)

It sounds like you are going to be flying a lot. If you live 300 miles away, how long would it take you to drive? If its drivable in a pinch, that gives you a lot more of a "warm and fuzzy" being able to sit long call at home. FWIW.

Speaking of reserve rules, my favorite was a call I got after about 5 or 6 months into flying the line on the ER and it was my first real month on reserve and a scheduler called to say "I know you've never been on reserve so you might not know but you do have to call us after a trip..." :D They were laughing.

ah, the days when schedulers laughed...

Mike,

I've been doing DTW 320B reserve since Feb. I commute from the Midwest, & while tricky at times it can be done. Now, I have mostly Mainline flights available to me & that makes it much easier. I recommend you start off very conservative until you start to get a feel for the system. You'll start to learn patterns by scheduling fairly quickly.

Feel free to PM me anytime if you have any questions. Also, don't hesitate to call your Mentor. Welcome to the Delta Family. :)
