ASA GROUNDS 60 JETS

ATLANTA (AP) -- Atlantic Southeast Airlines, a major regional carrier for Delta Air Lines Inc., said Tuesday it has grounded 60 of its 110 50-passenger jets after an internal audit raised safety concerns.

The groundings were expected to cause some flight delays for passengers flying ASA. It could take 36 to 42 hours to complete the inspections, company spokeswoman Kate Modolo said.

The paperwork audit raised questions about whether the engines on Bombardier CRJ200 jets had been properly inspected according to the guidelines provided by the engines' manufacturer, Modolo said.

The company reported the problem itself to the Federal Aviation Administration and grounded the planes so they could re-inspected as a precautionary measure, she said.

Some of the planes were being inspected at the airline's hub, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the world's busiest. Other were scattered around ASA's other maintenance facilities.

The Atlanta-based airline, owned by SkyWest, Inc., serves about 110 markets and flies 150 planes, including 110 of the affected CRJ200s.

The number of flights affected and the length of any delays Tuesday and beyond weren't immediately known. Additional planes were being flown to some markets and passengers were being accommodated.

They were adding segments this AM to back fill. Lot of red on the board and a lot of 9000 flight numbers.

And the issue is the same with older DC9-88's.

Let's not let a few newer NB distract us from issue number 1 - the growth of up to 255 76 seaters.

I just hope the management is doing the right thing. It is very hard for me to believe that these planes are from growth. ACL65pilot, I'm not calling you a liar, just saying it is hard for me to believe. In March, our economy lost another 740,000 jobs in the civilian sector. Unemployment is now at a minimum of 8.5%.

Believe what you want. I am not adding my take to the info, just telling you want I was told in the first person.
Remember that the 88 and 9 are the new workhorses of this fleet.

Originally I was told they were 1 for 1 and last week I was told that they were now growth airframes. Go in to the CPO office here in ATL and ask our old CP or new one. I heard both of them say it. Better yet go ask Steve on Thursday night here in PTC.
Do not take my word for it. Go ask the questions. I just ask a lot of questions and post what I am told, no more no less.

I do believe you. It just amazes me that we haven't crashed and burned because of this downtown. Everytime I walk into the airports, I jokingly tell the Capt, "will someone please tell these people that there's a recession going on!"
