Let's say ACL is right, and we have two guys that get the text messages contiuously, because they're younger than you, and they have the technolgy... In that case, whenever there is a MEC meeting, it could be standard practice for the reps to come back and give us confirmation we're in compliance. That would be plenty. I don't need a full report at monthly intervals.

So, which one of them DISCOVERED the increased gross weight issue?

Yeah I guess that could be fine... but... we should have a report available should we wish to check the checkers. I'm not paranoid. believe me, but I have seen enough crappy contracts side letters, and "trust mes" around here that I think transparency should be paramount. And availability of information is part of that transparency. Personally, I would probably never look at it, but there are plenty of guys that would. I mean think about it. Do you know ANYBODY that looks at all that garbage in the front of the bid package.. let alone know what it all means? But at least the information is there...

I agree that unity is a very important part of the equation (although definitely not the only part). But that brings me right back to the point I was making in my post that prompted the 'if you're so smart, why don't you run for office' question:

Having the structure in place isn't enough. It has to be used effectively to be of any value. You aren't going to get the kind of unity you're looking for with weak leadership and a lack of any real, compelling objective. DAL management went for the throat and tried to destroy our careers during BK. And now that the BK/emergency has been over for several years, they refuse to even lift a finger to try and make it right. Even worse, DALPA refuses to so much as ASK them to make it right. Unity will fall into place nicely when it is clear that we can rally around the objective of correcting this. But it ain't gonna happen with Lee Moak type leaders and with people like yourself, who rationalize every excuse they can find not to fight for it.

FWIW, they do give a report to the MEC Council on compliance.

The Chairman. They were working the issue when a few of us brought pictures to them. No kidding..

DAL88, and that is why I see all of these issues as personnel issues and not a ALPA structure issue. The overall structure of ALPA is just fine, and for those items that need changing, there is a mechanism in place.
