Employers indemnity, or indemnity. That's it.

Employers protect themselves from consumers and its employees and when they can't protect themselves from their employees, as in cases of strict liability, they implement policies that allow them to recover damages from the employee.

The response to a simple question serves as a rock solid defense against actions for recovery against yours truly.

"Have you seen my paycheck?"

It is no brilliant legal strategy, but no less is true, "you can't get blood from a Turnip."

Kind of like when they crammed the Dude's head down the toilet. Dude pointed out it was unlikely the money they were looking for was in his commode.

Not only that, but it's causing all of us to go deaf in one ear.

If you time it just right, though, you'll upgrade half-way through your career. Then you can retire with symmetrical hearing loss. That's my plan anyway.

ANR Headset caution

One of the FO's I was flying with had a Bose noise canceling headset but it was rigged by someone. Flymike? I can't remember, but you take a regular $200 noise canceling headset and this guy has this piece that goes into it so that you can use your mic AND plug in your ipod/iphone and listen to it as well.

Man on the ER I wanted one of those. Now on the 88, I don't seem to have the time. I have to brief as soon as we level off I start talking away. Thanks to the ER, it takes me 15 minutes to brief an arrival. Down from 20 minutes. And I'm lying. But I did want one of those headsets for like $250 or so.

While I agree ANR's are the way to go... you might run into trouble with the FlyMike sets. The FAA came out with two INFO's and a series of queries, to carriers to determine their legality. The short answer is despite what FlyMike has on their website the DAL-N regulatory compliance and leagal section determined they were not in compliance with most aircraft certificate of type design.

The FAA office was very much up in arms about this, and was even cited as a possible cause in an accident.

Not sure if anyone at DAL-s has looked into this or not.

I have that set up and its great but it does have one issue. When the battery dies the headset goes completely dead. Can't hear anything and can't say anything. The battery light gives ample warning but it's still an issue. The $900 Bose still works if the battery dies, you just lose the noise canceling. That is the big difference, other than size(the QC2 with you fly mike is much smaller) and that is why the FAA had a problem.

It is never used.....purposefully.

Bar,

Very true. Once they got a judgment against you, they would be looking for you pay up until you died. Wait, I'm sorry, even after you die, they would go after you estate. So, even when it's over, it's not over. How does it feel to be a potential turnip? :D

When they changed out the nav/com/audio panels in the -9s some years ago, the new audio panel had (has) a hot mic feature.

No one uses it, as far as I've ever seen. The DC-9 is pretty quiet already.

The Buses use a more sophisticated version of a hot mic. It's so subtle you hardly notice it.

The 757 you don't need it. Don't know about the whales.

I wouldn't worry too much. The "SOC" version of the airline isn't going to resemble the "SOC+1" or "SOC+2" version much at all. They're going for speed right now, and once done, there's going to be a lot more change.

The August APA is out on the North Side.

I have been here almost 14 years and I have NEVER seen such a small award/displacement. 25 names total.

ACL, what's going on?
