Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
What passengers really hate after the surly service from the mainline agent is gate checking their bag on a mainline flight because the bins are full and having to go to baggage claim and wait 30 mins for it...At least on an RJ they get when they get off......Don't worry Carl, when we get bigger airplanes, you will be able to fit more than a pillow in the overhead bins...

IMHO buying the 50 seat RJ's for their mission was just stupid.
The 70 seat ATR burns about 1200 PPH compared to around 3400PPH for a 50 seat CRJ200. The ATR carries more weight in a much more comfortable cabin in and out of much shorter fields while traveling at nearly the same speeds over a 400NM or less route.
Around Atlanta, the ground delays make a much greater difference in block than whether the 15 minutes at cruise is flown at 260KTS or 450KTS.
If we had ATR's on the property, I would bid them before the small jets. Props are cool
In fact, I was half considering going to fly them in the Pacific islands as a furlough gig.

I'll only be responding to serious points from here on out.
It's not that we can't, it's that we choose not to. Rather, we choose to use ALL of our energies to begin an in-house union made up entirely of Delta pilots for the express purpose of representing ONLY Delta pilots.
I know you'd prefer nothing more than DPA supporters spending all their energies on the fool's errand of trying to fix ALPA through ALPA's "processes". Your angst is that we recognize this latest request of your ilk as the fool's errand that it is. That won't change. You should thank us for planning to have a union in place when ALPA bleeds out from its own self-inflicted wounds.

What Carl and the other DPA crowd are telling all of us who have not signed cards (and even those who have signed cards):
"The DPA way will be better than the ALPA way, but we won't show that to you through any type of action. Just believe us. As a supporter we're not going to get off our duffs and do ANYTHING substantial to convince the pilots that the DPA path is better for them except we promise we will just keep talking and talking to anyone that will listen that ALPA sucks and that it is broken and we don't want to fix what we can in the meantime until we have enough cards to hold a formal vote. In the meantime we won't try to fix anything at all to help Delta Pilots. WE won't do anything to show them that the DPA that we support to do the bidding of the entirety of Delta pilots is even slightly capable of organizing and implementing positive changes. We will continue to complain though, we promise that."
Carl, I applaud your view on recapturing and protecting scope, and restoration of this career. We are completely on the same page in those respects.
I would think that improving the lives and structure of the way the union represents the pilots of Delta Air Lines would be the goal, no matter what name is on the letterhead. I guess I was wrong.
Lastly, mark my words, IF by some chance DALPA becomes DPA, it will be due to an assessment for TWA failures from a decade ago, NOT because of failure at the LEC/MEC level.
DPA card in today, former fence-sitter. There's too much back door hooliganism going on at DALPA, and I dont trust them anymore.

"Yes, Horshack."
"I know, Mr. Kahh-terr. And he's sitting right here."
Leaving an RJ last week, it seemed 3/4 of the pax all congregated just outside the AC door. Some lady yelled, "Why don't they just check the bags so we can pick them up downstairs." Then it quickly turned into a near riot with
"Just get me away from this da%^ barbie jet" with laughter all around followed by "So when does Southwest get here?" with more laughter.
Has anyone done a survey about feelings of RJs vs. Mainline jets? Take a few hundred flights on each with a one page scantron form to each pax and in turn give them free beer, nachos, twizlers, and pudding for their feedback.
Southwest certainly knows the answer and will try to capitalize. In any case, good luck.
