WOW! Sounds like someone is a little sensitive. I hardly think a call from the Chief Pilot's office inquiring about a sick call could be considered "pressuring". If you're really sick, you have nothing to worry about.

I got a call :filleted: Email was immediately sent to the union as the individual that called me was confrontational and rude. Not ok and this should be nipped now as it is harassment. We're being treated as children getting calls from the principals office, ridiculous.

Same reason they pulled the Delta stock price off. Spin control.

Tired, falls under fatigue here at DAL. Now if you are tired because you had a head cold and could not sleep all night, then realize what is the culprit.

Read the memo sent out by your union. It is what is allowed per the PWA. You can just tell them that you are sick. It states "general nature" not "specific" illness. They can require you to get a doctor's note per the PWA, but have not been doing that. That does not mean that they may not start.
You can always state that you lack the confidence to pass gas.

They have seen sick time spike, and want to address it. They are aware of the HIPPA laws and will go no where near something that is a violation of your rights.
I attended the LAX roadshow (29 July) and unless I misheard, it was put out that the CPO phone calls were being discontinued. Has anyone else received an inquiry after calling in sick recently?

I agree - I also would not really call that "pressuring," but a lot can be inferred by the "tone" of the CPO - so it probably could go either way.

FWIW - The Company line (or at least one of them) was that guys and gals were out sick for extended periods and the company did not know, and felt that they (the company) missed an opportunity to offer assistance/help/make a heartfelt inquiry etc.

Not saying that there might not be some kernel of truth there, but I am still a little skeptical. Obviously you guys can make up your own minds if you believe it.

Last week the DTW CPO said they only call 1-2 per day and they average 48 or so guys on sick on any given day. He further that ATL determines who gets called and was not sure of the triggering metric.

RUMOR says the triggering metric is statistical.

2 standard deviations from the mean or greater are getting called. (For math gurus its the Empirical Rule equating to about 5% of the group)

No word on what happens if more pilots call in the sick and the standard deviation changes.

END RUMOR

Sorry, fixed it to read the Empirical rule, a little rusty on sadistics.

Verizon has begun blocking customers who use workarounds to tether their mobile devices without a Verizon-approved tethering plan, Boy Genius Report reported Monday. The move comes days after AT&T announced it will start forcing tetherers onto approved tethering plans, and just as the debate ramps up on whether curtailing tethering apps violates certain rules Verizon agreed to when it licensed a chunk of 700MHz spectrum for 4G use.

BGR noted that one of its writers, who uses a jailbroken Motorola Droid X and an unauthorized app to tether other devices, recently found that trying to navigate the Web on tethered devices redirected her to a Verizon Wireless page detailing rates for the company's authorized hotspot plans. This is perhaps a more measured response to tethering than AT&T, where customers must choose between discontinuing their tethering ways or getting forcibly moved to a more expensive tethering plan.

I think the memo stated that you could tell them you were self medicating and that you were never required to visit a doctor, ie, they couldn't tell you to see a doctor if you didn't see the need for it yourself. In that case, you were to write a letter stating the nature of your illness.

When I get sick, it's usually a sore throat, head cold, or I'm spewing gravy (Al Bundy gets credit for that one). Not going to see a doctor for any of those unless I think I might get dehydrated.

I try to keep my hands clean on the road, but I'm pretty sure 90% of my sicknesses are caused by eating in the cockpit.
