Ran into an old friend from the Air Force. He was one of the Air Marshals on my flight. After we landed in Atlanta, we chatted for a bit. He makes roughly $30k more per year than I do as a FO. When he asked me what I made, I lied to him because I was so embarrassed.

If Delta grows, it will be an acquisition wich most likely involves pilots which will remain long after their flying has been "synergized."

Delta is willing to allow pilots to leave with seniority via long term leave. I'd think one option is work somewhere else for a year then further evaluate options.

IMHO, reading the tea leaves, a bankruptcy filing by Delta would not surprise me over the medium term.
I'd need to see more about the terms of our debt ... just saying that I would not be surprised.

That is one way to fight back. Would not surprise me either. Kind of hard with where our debt is in relation to revenue, but wrt to this industry nothing surprises me anymore.

Yes they will offer leaves up to mid 2013. I asked a CPO and that is what they told me.

My guess is we are 1000 pilots fat right now.

I am not predicting a DAL bankruptcy, just saying that if the competitive environment changes (as it will with AMR's) that a competitive response isn't out of the question.

There is a fundamental difference between airlines like Alaska and Jet Blue, who will fight in the marketplace and those who are simply trying to survive. The survivors are more likely to undergo life saving surgery.

Yes. Actively looking to see what is out there without too great a household disruption.

IMHO, my bad for not beating down the door over at FedEx the day the merger was announced. Everyone said a five to eight year set back was an exaggeration when I posted it, but so far it looks like my prognosis was spot on.

It is hard to leave a job in your home town flying for the airline you always wanted to work for. Taking leave allows a guy to keep a foot in the door while providing a viable and immediate "plan B."

Had dinner with Harry Nolan back about the time I hired in with Delta and was all full of hope and optimism under Jim Whitehurst and Glenn Hauenstein's leadership. We were buying 757's and growing. Mr. Nolan told me then that Anderson would be President of Delta, shrinkage would begin and it would be bad for junior Delta employees. This was not a part of presentation and was obviously a speculative statement. He was however, correct.

As far as I know there is no way to know when a trip pops up on the pilot to pilot Swapboard.

That said, if you use Flightline Data Services/SABRE, if you sign up for at least their $5/month program, they have access to the Delta computer and scan open time every 5 minutes. You can sign up for "Alert Manager" and have new trips that pop up into open time either emailed or texted to you. You can even specify what kinds of trips within a limited menu: trip length, departure date, etc.

Yes, we should have this offered for free by the company, but at $5 a month I have found it worth it. If even one fairly short-notice nice trip pops up (especially some charter or HMV ferry) then I have found it worth it.

thanks - do you know which flightline download I need to do? There are way too many options - easyswap, easybid, widgetworks, flightline internet, FLiCA internet, maestro assistant, and tech assistant.... I can't find info about any of them...

He won't see any of it! :D Then again, if you've been here 4 years you should definitely go. You're senior to me. :D

A happy momma makes a happy home. Just sayin.

Johnso,

Just asking now.......

But should a buddy of mine that knows this guy who has a cousin that has 4 plus years at DAL go to UPS if called from the pool at 33k first year, bad labor relations and a real penchant for outsourcing just to make 149k second year? Add to that an ANC commute and starting over again. I know this guys wife pretty well and she is a damn good divorce attorney in real life and has already had it with the airlines, and from what I hear wants to work less and is not too found of making another life change that will chase pie in the sky to see it change yet again and delay her chance to stay at home with the kids......

Just wonderin.....:D

Dump the B**ch, go to UPS and hang out at the Bush Company in ANC. It will be cheaper in the long run........

Anyone know when the new category list from the 15Nov AE will come out? The last one came out 5 days later (20 sep for the 15 Sep results). I'm thinking 23 Nov results + 5 = 28 Nov, some holiday delay... Today? ;)
'course I already added and subtracted all the awards above/below me, and fingered out that I drop 4 more seniority spots, but it seems I'm always off a bit due to furlough/mil leave returns/sick/etc. that I don't know about, so nice to see it in writing from the company.
"When's it gonna be the AE cat results?"
