There was no excuse to "running hot" to the extent we did to whatever degree can be attributed to the MAX. That issue a thing well in time for increased hiring but that didn't fit the narrative of the Optimizer crowd and their "suddenly found 800 pilot positions" of alleged credit fluff.

Hiring was significantly curtailed during a time it didn't have to be, just because some thought it could be when they knew it wasn't going to work and they just watched it happen.

The real opportunity was our pairings got trashed at the same time staffing went to redline both of which were completely self caused and 100% preventable.

The pace this summer was ridiculous. I wonder how much that had to do with the tragedy in JFK. How much overtime was worked there? How many were they shorthanded? You can't ignore the culture and on-time mandate that adds pressure to the system. How many times has each one of us personally witnessed a request to release the brake?

But there's no problem... metrics are great. It's those lazy pilots "dwelling" all over the place.

I personally intend to fly as many GS next year as I did this year....did a one day in March or April. I enjoy my time off in the summer when the kids are home.

HI, I haven't been here for 30yrs. My guess predicting the future is tough and they never get it right, but management feels the crazy big awards have an overall cost savings that makes them worthwhile. I suppose on some level they are also guessing who is gonna be their green slip beast, and if a whole category doesn't volunteer there's a bit of a problem.

I know on some level this all comes down to which team do you support. I haven't seen so many captains with the long stare into nothing saying things like "the summer is almost over, just gotta keep on going" before. It sure seems like this was remarkably different than last year.

If we are still on negotiations and it's a concerted effort with backing by the overly vocal SM warriors, yes.

A reduction in GS flying is not in and of itself going to trigger a status quo violation. A judge will look at every aspect of the situation. Let’s say for example pilot GS requests drop 95% almost overnight and there is a concerted effort via a website, email and web boards to encourage no GS flying. A injunction will be issued as History shows us.
If on the other hand there is simply a reduction in GS requests of say 20% and none of the above is happening I doubt the company will have any luck getting relief via the courts.
