Same with my interview group. The important thing for him was that he was comfortable and confident (not cocky or arrogant) in his own skin.
I don't think color or style matter nearly as much as fit and neatness. With few exceptions, everyone wants to see that you care about the interview enough to prepare for it down to your clothes choice.
Be sure to put on your intended interview clothes (down to your socks and shoes) several days/weeks before your interview and wear it around for several hours; the length of the interview, perhaps. Keep your coat on for a while. Take it off and be 'jacketless' for a bit.
Do you feel good in the suit? Does it pull at the shoulders? Does it pull at your waist? Have you gained (or lost) a bunch of weight since the last time you wore it? Do you look good in the shirt/tie both with the coat on (buttoned and unbuttoned), and without it? If you don't feel good in the suit, either get it tailored or get a new one.
As stressful as the interview day can be, there is no sense being both stressed AND uncomfortable.

Again, do you have a source when you say Delta hiring? Is it posted somewhere? Or are you talking the internal letter? We are referring to the airlineapps LORs. Unless things have changed in the two months since my last conversation with two pilots on the interview panel, the AApps LORs have no bearing on anything till you show up...I have seen the sheet they use to score the apps, LORs are not on there and haven’t been for several years.
I talked to someone who did application scoring and asked point blank if it was good to get more recommendations because I thought back to a thread where people jumped on a guy for saying he was working on getting 10 internals.
It's interesting that you actually saw the application scoring sheet though, considering how very little information I was able to get and I'm already here simply because they keep it so closely guarded. It's probably not a good idea to brag about that one too much.
Regardless, the answer I got was that on a close call references could make a difference. You don't have to believe me if you don't want to.
