My appointment is this Thursday.

He went to our local FAA Doc and the Doc reiterated that he is in fact LEGAL.

Long story short if you want to work for a major, play by their rules. Get a First Class Medical every 6 months.
Well, I'm glad I brought this issue up. I think many people might get blindsided by what your friend experienced, especially if they were under 40, and their app got vetted for interview prior to six months from their physical and the actual interview occurred after six months. I guess I'm fortunate that I've been dinged before it might come to that.

Yep. They get to make the rules that they want to hire by. However, I hope they understand why there might be confusion. I would think that they should update their requirements from saying you need "A current First Class Medical" to you need a "First Class Medical issued within the preceding six months, regardless of age." This would eliminate any ambiguity about what they expect to see.

Glad my AME could work me in this week!

Be sure to bring that attitude to the interview. I got furloughed about 11 years ago. Hope you got that quick upgrade to the left seat so you could do the same job that furloughed DL pilots used to do but for G scale wages. What is G scale now, $80-90k? How long did it take you to upgrade and how many hours of TPIC did you log while you pulled into mainline gates flying hub to hub? Did you non rev on mainline with your family? Are you part of a flow up to Delta? Are you gonna take all that PIC time and interview with any other airlines?

Sorry to bring this up again..but I just don't buy this "poor RJ captain" crap..and I will remind everyone whenever I hear this BS sob story..especially from potential new hires.

You might want to consider getting over it ...

Nobody interviewing for a job with Delta today had any power to effect your career. If anyone deserves your frustration, it is our fellow pilots who voted in favor of agreements which outsourced your work.

Today Delta is a new Company, with new leadership. We are recovering Delta flying and hiring pilots.

I hear you, Bar..I just want to remind RJ Captains about some of the positive benefits they've enjoyed for the last decade that they can talk about during the interview. I know 2 of the new hire interviewers and they've had a high wash out rate for rj drivers who didn't prepare for the HR interview because they were "entitled and had already been doing the same job" for the last 10 years. Apparently, one pilot actually pulled out his DCI badge and said "I get a job" when the interview went downhill. He was wrong.

But I'm sure if a rejected candidate just says "life goes on, man", they'll get over it a lot faster than 1310 of us got over our furlough.

CG,

If they failed to prepare and lost out on a career worth $4.5 million or so ... well, that's different than a career which stagnated due to:
  • Deregulation
  • Economic Recessions
  • Terrorism
  • Age 65, and
  • Outsourcing
Some of the setbacks we endured will hopefully never be repeated. I think everyone who gets in today has a great future ahead of them. Welcome aboard!

Good luck, Catboat. FWIW, I don't recommend G-scale sarcasm for the interview and please remember that 1310 former DL furloughees are still waiting to move to the left seat after 15 years.

You should have a great career if you get hired at the front of the wave.

Another interesting tidbit from a person in the know !!!

"Need around 800 new-hires this year. Actively pursuing SIM time via vendors."

I sure am glad they closed the North training grounds.

Since everyone is discussing the fix it letters, I got 3 last night back to back from Delta and was confused by some of it. Here is what I got:

1. Update your first class medical. You all addressed this already, I'm one of the under 40 so I just scheduled an appointment with the AME for Wednesday to get a new one and will continue every 6 months

2. Incomplete education information, include your overall GPA for each institution. I had done that for each school attended, but for places like Flight Safety which are Professional Development there isn't a GPA. I left those boxes blank before, but I just went back today and put N/A in the GPA box for all of those. Is that correct or is there a better way?

3. Incomplete flight training, please update education history to include all flight schools, training academies, etc. where you received certificates and/or ratings. Pretty straight forward, I did my flight training at various part 61 schools and 141 schools and never thought to include that in my education history. I entered each school where I received a certificate or rating and once again put N/A for the GPA. Sound right?

Is there a way to find out if I entered it all to the computer's liking? I'm assuming responding to the email address will get me nowhere but maybe I'm wrong. I about fell over when I looked at my phone and had 3 emails from Delta@AirlineApps. Hopefully I get to be one of the lucky ones who hears something back sooner rather than later. Any advice is appreciated, this thread has been extremely helpful thank you.

I got one fix it email (the 3rd one on your list) and went through and updated everything. After I finished my corrections, I sent an email to that delta @ airlineapps email account to thank them, let them know I made the corrections, then asked if there are any other corrections I need to make. I had a chance a couple weeks later to meet Arnie at WAI and ask him in person as well. Four days after that, I got the email invite to interview. I think sending the email, and meeting face to face definitely helped. Good luck!
