The 717 looks like a great airplane. I just threw my bid in for 717 NYC FO (seat locks are waived for a new category or base) and it looks like a 5 day differences course from the md88, so I could potentially be on it as soon as I'm done with md88 OE. 30 FO vacancies in NYC on the 717, and only 5 people senior to me have bid it thus far. Holding a line with weekends off and BOS overnights? Yea I can do that

Aren't they contractually required to put out scheduled flying for bidding? Can they make it all reserve ? I don't mind reserve if I'm still relatively senior enough to get the days I want. Thoughts?

It would be highly unlikely to open the 717 NYC base with no flying. I suspect the opposite may be true and there will be very few reserves. I have jumped often on the 717. It would be a nice place to work, good displays and very quiet.

Yes there will be some lines. When they opened up the Atlanta category, I would have been about 50 percent on the intial bid. However, i would have ended up sitting reserve the first couple of months because the flying was not built up yet. You also do not know when the guys below you will actually go to training. You will generally have better seniority on a plane in NYC though as compared to ATL.

4/7 hired on Thursday. 3 military, 1 civilian. Delta said they don't want to give interviews to anyone that has to defer a class due to military commitment. Also, looking to fill Oct 6 and possible Oct 20 class. Good luck.

True all subsequent equipment changes are a 2 year lock. Maybe by then a330 NYC will be opened up and rumor is that may go way junior? I mean that's bigtimw speculation but you never know...

I bid the MSPM88 base when it opened to be in the top 55 or 60%. I went up there and sat reserve because they hadn't taken delivery of the MD90s yet.
It wasn't good at the time because I was commuting to reserve (and seniority didn't count then). I vowed not to bid a newly opened category again.
If you live in base, it could be a good deal though.
ghillis101, are there not seatlocks for newhires regardless of the new categories? Seems to defeat the logic, but I don't have time to look up the language in the contract.

I doubt the 330 in NYC will go all that junior. Lots of current NYC pilots are waiting for it to open. The combination of adding 717 time with a 330 base will make NYC very junior overall. I fear however that the whale shutdown may kill the 330 base in JFK.
