I get what you're saying. Some regionals only started paying for hotels more recently... My regional didn't pay for mine back when I got hired because they had piles of applications for each newhire slot. They only started once they couldn't find enough qualified applicants.

I found it to be something that I didn't really think about and certainly didn't get worked up over it. It sure hasn't dampened the amount of pilots applying. The day hiring was announced, I got numerous phone calls, texts, and facebook messages.

True, but for a military pilot that didn't do a full 20 but may have come close, that pay hit could be more severe than a PCL CA's was. A frac/corp pilot who may have had a decent compensation but was always wanting to fly for a legacy could have taken a decent hit also.

What applies to your specific situation ISN'T ALWAYS what applies to everybody else, is it?

Again, true. But you overlooked the point I made that reserve rules weren't always that great. Combined with a mentality that existed that a reserve pilot is always junior.

OK, I phrased it wrong. Can you deal with/get past it? Especially since I made reference to bojangles more accurately saying what I meant?

i know..and i'm not saying anyone would ever turn down a job here over it. all i'm saying is it should be provided because it's the right thing to do. I wonder what our peer legacy airlines do?

Absolutely true. I in no way meant to say that my situation applies to all. First year pay at DL was on par with FedEx more than it was UAL and CAL who paid about 30 an hour. CAL didn't even provide health insurance the first 6 months. I'm not sure what they do now, but that was far more concerning than not having a hotel provided during sim training.

Sure.

I agree. All I'm saying is it's not really something to make a mountain out of. It's a corporate policy, not a union thing, and none of us have a say in it.

Been covered previous.

Full accommodation, plus an elevated guaranty on pay plus per diem for the full term of the training event, as well as insurance from day 1.

Agree, and it should never come into play as a factor in determining where to go work if given the option. Simply circling back to the point that professional pilots at a legacy airline aren't accommodated during training.

IIRC, that was the reason behind the no health insurance for 6 months at CAL. it was a company wide corporate policy.

Default phone call

Has anyone heard of someone they know getting a phone call for an interview yet? None of my Delta references have heard if calls are going out yet.

The invite comes in the form of an email to whatever account is on your airlineapps form.

I'd be willing to bet that invites won't go out until at least later September or early October.

With airline apps now being the only way to apply, is the day of a high up recommendation that would get you an interview gone? I'm just curious how the very well connected (certainly not me) would go about getting the interview. I know back in the day it sure had to have happened that some higher ups could through your name in the hat and get your number pulled

Thanks
FP

I doubt if that will ever change at any company.
If a senior enough management type walks in to the hiring office and says,
"Hey, I'd really appreciate it if you took a look at this guy", then that guy is going to get a look.
