Out of curiosity and in the interest of getting an interview, are you a woman or non-Caucasian male or well-connected individual? I only ask because those stats don't seem particularly competitive.

The hiring pool is shrinking. Fedex and UPS get first dibs. United and AA have a faster road to widebodies. Allegiant pays more for the Md80 with near instant upgrade opportunity.

Delta isnt top tier.

Plus, since this individual got invited for an interview, he/she is deemed qualified by the people that make the decisions.

Obviously, those quals are competitive now.

Carry that sense of humility and enthusiasm along with honesty and a "can do" attitude to the interview and the job is yours. I know that sounds like advice from grandpa but its true. You are very fortunate, please remember that when you fly with the old guys. I am already jealous of your career.

Congrats.

Maybe, but I know of a few very heavy hitters (resume wise) that haven't heard a peep in years. Current, updating, internal recs, etc. I wonder if recruiting is in the "coffin corner" of qualified but not overqualified.
