Hockey, this made me smile because we are somewhere around the same page of the list. Hard to believe we are already becoming the grumpy guys talking about the bad old days. In the 07-08 timeframe, it was more like, "Son, back in my day we waited 10 years before getting on this airplane." Funny how fast things change.

Back in the steam powered days (very recently for Delta IT) our schedules were all done on paper. The color of the paper made it easier for crew scheduling to sort them after we dropped them in the box. White=line holder asking to pick up a trip. Green=overtime request. Yellow=reserve (high or low) asking to be first or last to be called out. Sometimes it behooves you to go high for a good trip to avoid a bad trip, or to fill up.

Although, nowadays all a yellow means is that you've requested to fly first. No more last out. You can request a specific trip too though. If you see a trip that is uncovered, and you don't want to be sitting around waiting to be called, throw in a yellow.

Good news - only 2 months on reserve before getting a line!

If a 4 day guy wants to yellow slip a 3 day. The 3 day guy still gets the trip even though he did not request it. This needs to be fixed.

That is a drawback with the "bucket" system, but I don't see the company changing it without some major givebacks on our part. It is just too efficient for them.
