What Sailing said. Is she in the loop? If you commute, less time at home. Any way if you commute, do it at the "young" end of your career. Nothing sadder than a tired 59 year old turned away at the gate.

There is no one solution for everyone. My parents moved shortly after I finished high school, and it sucked coming home to visit because none of my old friends were there. I think it depends how deep your roots are wherever you're commuting from -- you can always put down new roots in base, but you can't replant the old ones.

If you choose to commute, you have to acquire a commuter mindset which is an active choice to not stress over any commute. If you're tired, get a hotel, if you are unable to commute let it roll off your back, go in early, plan to lose the rest of the day and maybe the morning after your trip, etc. Even if it means missing events in the family. This might be something you should discuss clearly and thoroughly with your family.

At least seven weeks. Two weeks of indoc, one week of CBT, four weeks of a/c training then IOE. You may have more time between indoc and a/c training and you may have more time between a/c training and IOE. In my case it was a full two months before I saw an airplane.

Go to Atl and observe the Dallas commuters. 64 year olds turned away at the gate.

I think Tail-end Charlie in my class was about 3-4 weeks behind me.
