Say what you will about Richard and his Frank Lorenzo roots, but he really knows how to play an MEC.
He could sell ice to Eskimos (watch out Alaska), and more big RJ's to DALPA, as well as reduced profit sharing in times of record profits.
Brilliant.

And I'm one that can be convinced to give up some profit sharing for an increase in pay rates, but 3% & 3%?!!!!!!!!!!! What was the first offer? Oh, forgot, that WAS the first offer.

He said the company's first offer was...
ZERO.
That's right, they opened with a Zero percent raise!
I said, "You have GOT to be FKING Kidding ME! So what did they offer us??"
He said their "Offer" was; parking the 50 seat RJ's and buying the 717's, and hiring. No pay raises, just little jet jobs.
I said, "They can buy a thousand 717's and it's not going to help anyone on our seniority list today upgrade to widebody Capt!"
I asked W.T. F. is in this for ME?? Do I get my 1.4 Million DB retirement back?

He touted the 8.5% raise, the 4% raise, and of course, we would never see the 3% raises because...Alaska!
Yeah, they got played. But Richard is very good at that, as we've now seen.
So...NEXT TIME....are we going to listen to this BS?
Fool me once, shame on you.
Fool me twice, shame on ME.

RA, a grad of the Lorenzo school, probably thought offering ZERO was generous because he wanted a 5% cut! Its amazing how many of his disciples are still floating around like debris at top of my septic system. The Gelfstream Airlines (of PTF fame) was EA's PR man under Frank. I saw his name (Bruce something) went back to my file of EA MEC memorabilia and was stunned.

300 is no more valid a number than 600 or 700 or 200. The company puts out a number for initial planning and it is constantly evaluated and updated. The last time they were accurate with the hiring number was........................................ never.

Call it whatever number you want then. Fact is...right now, they're calling between 13-14 OTS a month (or 2 days worth of interviews)...and the Compass flows haven't even started. Once the Compass flows start, the number OTS will go to 0. If that stays status quo, then a Dec interviewee can expect a class in 2015.

That's good. It looks like 289 retirements in the the next 2 years, so I would think at least 230 or so will be in next 18 months. 18 months will be plenty of time to get a class.
I just came from recurrent and the guesses are all over the place concerning hiring numbers at least with the instructors.
