Word is that 6/10 were hired yesterday. They were told to expect May or June indoc.

I completely agree. IMHO the dinner is really for your spouse, to welcome them. To help instill that this new chapter, in life, will be a good read. Push hard for them to come. It only happens once. We had many in my class that brought one of their parents if their spouse couldn't make it.

What about a child, would that be ok or is this 'adult swim'? Wondering if I could bring my two and pay for one ticket?

I am eagerly awaiting indoc on 4 April and am troubled by my lack of knowledge on how to make a decision about what aircraft I would pick if given a choice.* I live near Atlanta, so that is my desired base.* I would choose a non-ATL aircraft with a plan to AE to Atlanta if there is a compelling reason to choose one aircraft over another.* I'll admit that I am a military dude that is looking to raise my general knowledge from "embarrassing" to "basic understanding."* A few questions that come to mind:

1) Can someone explain the 73N and 7ER relationship?* I assume 73N = 737-700 and 7ER = 737-900 ???* If this is the case, do pilots bounce between the various versions of the 737 or is each version treated as a separate category?* How much international is available on the 73N and 7ER out of Atlanta?

2) I realize opinions vary, but in general, between 7ER/73N/717/88/320, which have more "desirable" schedules out of ATL?* I'd define desirable as not flying multiple short-hops each day, not laying over with exactly enough time to get to your hotel, catch a short night of sleep, and then rush back to fly again the next day.* Do any of these have layovers in Caribbean and/or South America?

3) In which of these planes would my seniority build the fastest once I've AE'd myself into ATL?

4) Any other useful advice that would help me make a choice

My wife was nursing at the time, so I asked this, too. Was told in no uncertain terms that children are not welcome.
My parents hung out in my hotel room and watched the kiddos for us. When they could not stand it any longer, they sent out the bat signal and we split from the dinner.

73n is 737. 7Er is 757/767. There have been new hires awarded the 7ER but I would not count on it. I am sure someone will chime in with more details

Oh wow! I thought the 7ER was the 737-900 all this time. That changes my perspective a little. I'm ready for April 4th.

One man's opinion. Go to the plane that will give you seniority the fastest - probably the 717 or MD - especially if you are retiring military and have already seen the world. I passed on the ER and took a 717. Awesome decision in my case. The good news that it's only a 1 year lock for now.

I've considered picking the 717 for seniority and the quick ATL option. It's hard to ignore the 2nd year pay difference.
