I'm very happy with the current system... rather than change it significantly, I'd recommend learning it first.

I'd tell you how I do it... but then I'd have to kill you. :p

In defense of Carl's defense of the system,( which I know he does understand), I too am on the same fleet as Carl. And on that fleet there are VERY few GS's awarded. AND very very few are awarded to anybody who isn't on the first page of the bid list....an occasional inverse assignment 3 hours before departure.....But virtually ALL GS on Carl's category must run the SENIOR VULTURE GAUNTLET and those senior vultures live in Detriot...For the REST of us who view Detriot area as unfit for habitation and also have been rendered Junior 4 life, there will be no or extremely rare GS.

So again, as an extremely junior line holder, I have zero desire to change anything. My advice... really learn the system that we have.

P.s. Just so you know, there is absolutely zero risk involved in what I do... (got to go now... I've already said too much!).

Who is this crazy person? I'm sure he doesn't even work for Delta. Nothing in this post is worth noting. Move along...

Lee Moak, ALPA PAC, Barack Obama, CDOs, longevity based pay!

I agree, there's much less you can creatively do in a single base very small category like the 744 & 777... (although I was a 777B for 3yrs and used the contract in different ways for maximum effect).

Since there's about 800 total pilots in those categories, I'm not interested in major changes that, IMHO, will negatively impact the potential for 11,200 other pilots.

All I'm saying is, know and use one's contract before advocating major changes.

Very well thought out and intelligent post...

The point of the previous posts were: for those who would like to maximize pay/quality of life... before advocating major changes, really learn and exercise your contract for maximum effect.

Fortunately or unfortunately, (depending on how it benefits one) I find that the majority have not bothered.

YMMV

(OBTW, Don't take any advise from me... I've only been here 26yrs... does that constitute me working for Delta?)

What % of your bid package begins and ends with a DH?

Too bad we're not on the same fleet. I have spent many a crossing, over the years, showing several dozen guys how to work the contract for maximum effect... even got a steak dinner from one, after a year of him experiencing the results for himself.

As far as watching the View... I'll talk, I'll talk!

While a lot if it USED to begin with a DH very few of those went out GS, and on average I viewed fewer than 6 GS's per month in the category Carl and I occupy. So while a lot of trips in the bid packet begin with a DH extremely few wind up GS. The lion's share of GS are those that start with an operating flight in Detoilet and are vultured up by the Ypsilanti flock.

I'll betcha my category/base... which is much bigger... has about that many GSs per month.... in a good month. There are pretty slim pickens these days. :(

Yes it is slim! and when they do go out GS it is always to roughly the same 4 or 5 guys.
