It would be nice if LCR was a little longer of a call out than 12 hours. 24 would be wonderful, but 16 would be doable for many. I’m in the same boat where if I was called at 7pm for a 7am show, I’d have to get in my car and drive through the night. But a 7pm phone call for a 11am show is doable. Do any other companies use a longer window?
I.e. if you had long call on Monday, you had to check your schedule no earlier than 10am on Sunday and no later than 6pm (if I recall correctly). So as long as you checked at 10:01am then you had generally a minimum of 20 hrs (for a 6 am departure the next day).
It was great. Long calls were also in the same priority as all reserves so if you bid last out, there was a good chance you were never going to be called. I understand why the company wanted to change that, the call out time being the same as before would have been nice though.
I went back and looked at the wording on the new call out, on the first day of your reserve sequence you can't be assigned a show before 1pm, however if you aren't used that first day and you are used the second day, the 12 hour call out applies.
My earlier example with Tuesday was correct assuming you started your reserve sequence on Monday.

Before the bankruptcy we had 10am the day prior.

I’ll probably just watch these first couple months and see what kind of report times guys are getting.

The first day thing is nice, but once I fall into the 12 hour window I get hosed between 6pm and 9pm with a min call out. I’d have to get in my car and drive 6 hours. Or go sit at the airport each night standing at the counter for the last flight Incase they call me

There's always a chance but don't believe it until it is up for bid. We have a few Phoenix commuters and they don't seem to hate it too much for what I've been told. We have a sim down there now and I know at least one FO that makes a killing picking up seat support in open time.

Not sure this will be true. Relatively close commuters maybe...
As it's currently written, I believe it's a 12 hour call out regardless of report time.
I.E. 8pm call on Tuesday night for 8am report Wednesday morning. In many cases, 8pm is either past the last flight of the night into the hub or darn close considering you need to grab your bag and be out the door and at the airport before that last flight and could likely be before the first flight in the AM will get you into the hub.

I’m not convinced LCR will be good for commuters unless they’re coming on a short, frequent commute like BOS or DCA. I live in base and bid short call for March since I want to see how they end up using the long calls. But after that I plan on doing long call since there’s a lot more flexibility in what I can do on long call vs short call since I’m an hour drive from the airport already.

That’s now how any of this works. Bid what your seniority can hold, plain and simple. Are senior lineholders with upgrade times met screwing junior reserve pilots by not upgrading or bidding reserve themselves?
Plus, Kelvin is right. I don’t think a lot of commuters are considering how they’d get to work on a 12 hour call out given at the exact wrong time of night for them. This thing is built for the short distance commuter or long distance driver.
