Easily even with a few easy pickups every once in awhile. Even a second year FO could make close to $100k if they lived in base and hustled (125 credit hours average plus $700 per diem per month on average plus the up to $1200 a year performance bonuses). We have good open time pay rules and almost zero restriction against reserves picking up open time on days off as a reserve pilot, as which it is possible to get 10-12 consecutive days off each month and pickup open time during these days.

It depends on how much your second job pays!

Seriously, about $87/hour * 75 hour min * 12 months is about $78,000...everything else depends on how ambitious you are and how much free time you might want...

A few observations following today's company and union communications:

The seniority list over the past 2 months seems to be stagnating. Very little movement on numbers lower than 700 as SSP is winding down and DGI has yet to begin. DGI eligibles begin around 675ish I believe.

E-Mail from union says 9 resignations in June (0 to Delta). Much lower than previous months. Again, SSP winding-down I believe.

Memo from JF today says we're full-up on both fleet plans "as of today for the remainder of 2018."

Yet, hiring was recently ramped-up full force. Anticipation for the DGI re-vamp? Something else? Delta Shuffle? Smoke and mirrors?

I think the language in the memo that says “the post summer fleet plan is still being evaluated” combined with the ramp up in hiring should be encouraging enough. The company is not going to spend millions hiring pilots they won’t need... I think we can expect an announcement similarly timed as the last one.

But yea, bummer the attrition has gone down. Truth be told, a lot of the senior guys here are comfortable and not looking to leave. And lots of the fos and junior captains are waiting around to see how the DGI shakes out... I’ll be worried if September rolls around with no announcement.

IIRC, Delta wasn't hiring OTS for a while recently. Hopefully, that's part of the reason for stagnation. Haters gonna hate, I know, but Delta had represented a sizable enough chunk of attrition over the past several months that a hiring freeze would impact movement here.

Remember that most shops slow hiring down during the summer too so that’s probably why not as many people left last month. The number of folks leaving will probably pick back up in September.

History is full of hiring as much as you can until you do an immediate 180 and furlough. Not saying this is the current situation, but airlines have shown historically to only know 2 ways of operating, full hiring or furloughing. I am glad we aren't in the latter.
