The good ol' days the most senior living in base MEM 200 CAs were bidding and commuting to ATL for "the -9"

I seriously hope your not saying that the MSP flight attendants are less crabby than NYC?

A line on the 200 is better than reserve on the 900. Make you choice based on QOL. The 900 is better in all aspects for flying aside from being fun to fly (the 200 is lighter, more responsive and feels better hand flying). The 900 is also less work because of things being more automated. None of that matters if you aren't senior enough to hold it in the base you want or have the schedule you are looking for.

The -200 is a Miata and the -900 is the Expedition. One is maneuverable, but not powerful and the other is able to climb and can carry more.

In the end, it's the same type rating and eventually it will be dual-qual anyway.

I agree, I think we will be flying both when ever the company wants. PSA, Skywest and I think expressjet fly all three in a trip! Like the others have said who cares the wheels go up and they come back down and they all land on a black peice of pavement some where other then home. I'd go with easiest commute or where you can stand to live.

AFAIK Expressjet has 2 and 7/9 as separate, Skywest I think crosses between the jets but not as likely all in the same day (clarification?). PSA it seems you definitely jump from jet to jet in a day.

Isn't it down more to the FSDO approving it? That was my understanding at least.

Expressjet does not, there is a 200 group and a 700/900 group. Skywest does not schedule trips that include both the 200 and 700/900, but it can happen in an IROP. Do I think it's going to happen here, maybe, do I really care, not really. It is that hard to land a plane with leading edge devices and one without from the same family, no its not, having done it previously.

Every original DC9 operator did it and it was never an issue there.

It isn't a big deal if you've been flying both of the jets for a while. Some issues arose with our DECs who didn't have any time on the airplanes and brand new FOs who didn't have much experience were paired together on reserve and they could potentially fly the 2/7/9 in one day... However those days are pretty much gone because our airframes are more segregated by base (not totally but much more than they used to be) and we don't really have a lot of inexperienced crew being paired together like we did during our rapid growth period.

Thanks for the input! Are trips built with any airframe in mind? Any rhyme or reason?

I'm not keen on dual qual unless they make it worth it. Much better QOL on the 200 than 900 for me, and the trailing link gear helps me get that "nice landing" ego boost when giving 'buh-byes'.

16-05 is out. The upgrades appear to come to a screeching halt. Word on the street is that we are totally equipped until next spring in terms of aircraft count. I speculate that all hiring now until then will be to cover attrition.

Argument? Corroboration? Rumor mill?
