[QUOTE=AnotherWriter;2255475]Unless it's NYC. I had one really rough departure out of there when I was first starting out... the 'ol Whitestone off 13 and because I was handflying we got really, concerningly far, behind the aircraft. Bad CRM, too much workload. It's just safer to use George in NY. Besides, we get to practice the handflying on the Expressway every other day.
I'm happy to see people in this thread talking about actually handflying though.[/QUOTE
Practice makes perfect 👌 Don't sweat it! A good captain will use their experience to teach.

Behind the aircraft on a standard SID? I get NY is busy but if you get that far behind something is wrong. Tell ATC standby, fly the aircraft, and yes if you need the A/P push it on. What happens if it does not engage or kicks off? What happens if you lose and engine? My point, it's a discussion not an attack, you should be able to hand fly any aircraft at any time and keep it within the limtis of the a/c and the SID or route. It's called being a pilot. If guys/gals flew 727s and other aircraft, for years, out of the place, you should too.

Because they can only TDY out of DTW 3 months in a row, then they need to do a TDY into DTW to reset the 3 months TDY out. They don't want to displace captains so they've been playing this TDY game instead.

Anybody using Uber out in NYC? Last time I was based there, I never used them, but my crashpad mates said it was good. The reason I ask is I've seen the controversy Uber had caused with the local cabbies and I wondered how things were going since. Thanks.

I've used the carpool feature which makes it much cheaper, as long as you don't mind sharing the ride.

I use it anytime I'm in NYC. They pick up at specific locations at LGA, rate is pretty much known in advance. I'll send for a car once I'm off the aircraft and usually don't have to wait too long, there's almost always cars in the area waiting- just depends on terminal traffic.
