Default Modern Slavery

The problem is that we complain and complain and complain but do nothing about the situation and yet we expect things to miraculously change, that's the definition of Insanity my friends. It's modern day slavery they are trying to make things as difficult as possible so that you either quit or go insane. This profession has been destroyed at the regional level. There is no adequate compensation which is ok as long as there is quality of life (multiple days off, commutable lines, productive trips). Now we gave in to more concessions and our quality of life is been taken away. Yet there's plenty of mediocre 2nd and 3rd class pilots getting hire by the regionals cause this companies need to fill the seats. Here's the F*&K part about this, the FAA implemented all this changes (1500hrs, 117 rules) all to help place experience and well rested pilots in the cockpit. I wonder what they'll do when a plane slam into the ground cause by pilot error. Always have a backup plan.

If envoy calls, take the damn job. DON'T take the signing bonus if you don't plan on staying.

You can bail at any time if you want.

Not that envoy is really wanting to hire anybody right now, they just pay it lip service.
I think people are trying to help their fellow man and give good advice not "sink their own airline". Envoy is not a place any normal new hire should consider, there are no pros to working there in the current environment.

As to the mil guy looking to stay current and move on, if you think you'll get picked up by a major quickly then it's probably not a bad deal. I'm sure you'll hold DFW, albeit on reserve.

Funny you mention this. While I did my time at eny, I came to the conclusion that these are the same 4-5yr FO's that did the most complaining. So Im guessing they are the same venting here.

Goodluck!

If you go to Envoy and get DFW, which as I mentioned before is quite likely at this point, be prepared for 3-4 years of reserve. Reserve entails 11 days of but also subject to Junior Mans due to staffing constraints.

As someone else mentioned, I would avoid taking the signing bonus just in-case this whole thing continues to blow up and you want out or another opportunity arises. Either way you won't have to worry about repayments. It would appear that Envoy is being subjected to intentional wind down. I hope that's not the case but with monthly news continuing to get worse and worse, it would appear that way.
Thanks, this is the stuff I'm looking for. I don't know the ins and outs of the contracts and those details are what will make this transition easier.

Default Commute?

Anybody out there that commutes from SLC to DFW that can share some insights on that? I may start with Envoy shortly and am trying to figure out where to plant my family. I know living in domicile is ideal, but I have several other factors to consider.

Id suggest going to Skywest and staying where you are. 3-4 years commuting to reserve will ruin you.

I am curious as to where people are coming up with 3-4 years on reserve? By my figuring, someone starting today would upgrade in 4-5 years. They certainly would not be spending most of it on reserve. The shrinking will be over in a year and some change. By the same token, the musical chairs whipsaw will also be over by that time; in other words, the airlines growing by getting new planes will also have settled down.
So where would be the place with the most movement in a few years if no one is growing? How about the place with the most attrition? envoy has the latgest flow as a percentage of its pilot group. It has the most senior pilots retiring in the next 5 years. envoy will be the most movement in 2-3 years time.
I was not advocating envoy because I thought they were shutting us down slowly. After speaking with a reputable source at AAG, and seeing what they are doing now to retain and attract pilots, I am certain they are not shutting the place down. They got the cost structure they wanted to profit from a wholly owned.

FWIW:
I am currently 3 years, 6mos on reserve. Cannot hold a line. Cannot hold weekends off on reserve.

You can't hold a line anywhere or are you referring to DFW? Also, what is currently going on does not foretell the future. Just before you got hired, FOs were barely sitting reserve. It ebbs and flows. The flow part is coming. It does not make up for your suffering though and it is awful sad to see that someone at PSA will be able to upgrade in less than the time you have been on reserve. That too will change.
