Truth of the matter is that they told all the interviewees that they could chose to have domicile of choice.
Then they take it away and say "sorry."
Yes, it would be nice if they would honor they're word. Its all very unfortunate. I feel for the recruiters also. Has to seem at least a little embarrassing on there end.
Take the above advice in regards to commuting out of ORD, having 15 days of, living where you want, blah blah blah with a grain of salt.
You will be junior and commuting to reserve. Commuting to sit in a crash pad sucks or reserve anyway sucks.
Working for a regional that is going out of business or is bottom of the industry to be based out of DFW are lousy options also.
Best of luck with your choices. Ha

My thing is, if I'm gonna commute, I gotta live in the here and now, so I'll have to commute for more money. I realize now a lot of the negativity at this outfit, may be because it was well earned.

I was hoping for DFW Base, but the card's didn't pan out that way so I opted for ORD 145.
I will say this about Chicago.
I visited there for the first time last year. I absolutely loved it. Of course you'll have your hood's, every city has them.
But on the upside, it's a youthful city, plenty to do, a great art district and people were relatively friendly.
I have friends that live in Chicago (Downtown, Southside) and not everywhere in Chicago is a bad place to live.
My suggestion, if you can't afford it on your own, find a classmate and see if they want to room with you. There's always a way man.
Another thing you gotta remember is that this is the aviation regional industry man, things can change at the drop of the hat.
You gotta go into it thinking that as well so you're prepared and not let down.

What's your budget like for an apartment? A good friend of mine who lives there found me a some nice 1BR apartments close to the train lines NOT in the hood from anywhere between 7-850.
Sometimes with full or partial utilities included.

That's understandable. When I started at Eagle, it was one of the "good" regionals. They've fallen behind, so I can't say I'd make the same decision today.

...wow, just wow! pretty sure it's not your phone's fault either!!!
STOP WHINING - if you want QOL, find a different career!
no base is ever GUARANTEED! base assignments come and go via displacements or worse, base closures!!!
...start looking at your other two "DFW" options, especially MESA - entitled millennial

Do I feel bad for the guy hell no. But if I was him I would make sure I wasn't going to get the CRJ and be stuck in ORD for a LONG time with no chance of getting back to DFW.

This is my 2nd go at entering the industry, I opted out when regionals like Colgan and others were hiring 250hr wet commercial and horrible pay. I didnt do it then I won't do it now. OUR PROFESSION DESERVES BETTER. Regional or not. Livable wages should never be a minimal standard.

I'm sure you wouldnt say that in person.
You sound insulting, and demeaning. You don't know me or my background in aviaton. You don't know the other poster that mis-spelled a fee words either. I understood his words and point which was the bigger picture. Not a big deal family.
Thanks for advise nontheless. MESA IS NOT AN OPTION. Sure call me a millennial. I guess i could be an old millennial, or begining of that generation. Sure call me entittled since I don't want to settle, like many have in the past for low pay-wages, and poor QOL (i'm not the only one. Sure call us entittled for demanding better). Many chose to interview for certain reasons & now those reasons are gone... Sure I like Envoy and will still consider Envoy.
I DO NOT WANT TO BE A VICTIM, OR MY FAMILY TO BE A VICTIM OF GUN VIOLENCE. FAMILY SAFTY IS IMPORTANT. COST OF LIVING IN CHICAGO IS ALSO HIGH.
No more extra $7K bonus for ORD like others got bothers me also. ENVOY is not offering Endevor/Republic NYC like pay for a high cost of living area either. So I'll be forced to have to consider commuting. I can't plan ahead and won't know how long i'll have to commute.
I know how the industry works. I understand base closures and company needs very very well. I've followed this industry (both regionals and majors) since 2000.
I hope we can all be professionals, mature, and respectful to each other here. Thanks sir.
