I would be driving to LGA from about 1:45-2:00 away. I can put up with reserve for the left seat time, but if I have to do that drive daily for airport reserve I will go broke ($44 round trip in tolls alone!).
Are the airport rsvs being utilized and sent on overnights? That's the only way I could make this work. If it's sitting at the airport all day for the next 18 months... well, looking at other options.

Some months you’ll be flying, some months you’ll just sit at the airport or home (if you’re lucky), doing nothing.
IMO coming to Envoy just for the left seat and commuting to reserve is foolish and not sustainable. If you take the immediate upgrade you’ll be sitting at the bottom of the list for a long time. That means, a lot of calls from crew scheduling to either fly or sit airport standby.
I’ve done it 7 months, and it was rough, I thought about quitting many times..
Good luck!

Have you seen the work rules at mainline, they are live-able.
What mainline will you get hired to and instantly be forced to upgrade and have no QOL. We will be bottom
Feeders for at least the next two years.
If this were a mainline, I could sit reserve and make well over 6 figures after the first year.
We can compare apples to oranges all day long....
I didn’t sign up to be broke and miserable, just broke

It just depends on the operations that day. You might get a day trip, an overnight, or nothing. There is just no rules. You’ll get your 4 commuter hotels, that could help.

Fortunately I wouldn't be commuting, I could drive to JFK. That being said, it still sounds awful. The alternative is staying put where I've been downgraded to CQF with no left seat time in sight while we are at the same time hemorrhaging pilots (junior to me).

No, ive only heard stories from pilots occupying the jumpseat.
I'll worry about it if I ever get hired.
I didn't either! The point I was trying to make is that you work for eagle and will be displaced where needed regardless of what you we're promised in class.
I guess it is apples to oranges when i asked being based away from home, while working for a mainline company vs regional

Yes.. and several people I know that are new here or first year here are planning to quit because of it. Terrible that the company is doing this "forced" upgrade.
People were given DFW, moved to DFW. Signed apartment leases and now displaced to LGA CA (while people JUNIOR to them, including new hires get to stay in their current seats in DFW). That is extremely wrong when someone junior to you gets to stay and you are forced to commute across the country to a horrible reserve system with virtually no days off after preassigned RAPs, (and you will be forever junior on the fleet and be stuck with horrid relative seniority since everyone will keep upgrading above you). Seniority means nothing here when this happens...
By coming here with more experience their quality of life is severely penalized due to out of seniority order displacements. Some people may want to waste 40 hours a month commuting across county with 1 day off a week to upgrade ASAP. Many with families and other obligtions do not. Seniority "should" protect that right to choose, but it doesn't. They should be hiring street CA's over forcing anyone into this situation.

1) welcome to aviation part 121. It's only gonna be the same thing over and over and over
2) you should've been here during the LTFO debacle
3)older guys have been trying to tell the whipper snappers essentially all of this but y'all don't wanna listen

First off, proffer for anything in open time the day prior. (Being extremely junior you probably won't get any of it 80% of the time but "occasionally" you will just because everyone senior is already used up or unavailable for the number of days of the desired trip.
Second, you could proffer for a certain standby time and you have a decent shot at getting that, rather than just being assigned the least desirable one that day. Afternoon PM standby shifts tend to get overnights significantly more than the 6am standby shifts. Certain locals will intentionally line bid 6am standby for the month because it is more likely they just get a day turn and come back home at night. Obviously that is a gamble and you could be extended into an overnight or even the next 5 days but I know people that have done this with some success for years.
Once you are out on a trip or a turn, constantly look at open time and call up scheduling and ask to get things added to you if you want it. They typically will. You can also put yourself on the reserve turn back list. Just take yourself off before your last day. You can pick ask to pick up an OT 4 day trip that runs into your reserve days. They say it isn't allowed but it is magically allowed on occasion when it benefits them.
There is all kinds of tips and questionable reserve schemes, loopholes and contractual grey areas people use to either fly more or try to not fly at all.. Not going to get into that online but you will learn them after a while...

Oh, I was here for that.. I have 5 displacements, 2 CA to FO downgrades, 4 types and 2 of my bases I moved to closed out from under me while here at this wonderful place. 10 yr upgrades to 2 weeks forced upgrades. Different problems today than for us but still the same ol BS with this operation. They will do their best to screw you over one way or another.

If so..and in conjunction with the info you provided...You are most certainly an Eagle lifer who was put through the 9/11 wood chipper. Ever since I upgraded I never get to fly with you types anymore. Boy..I sure miss those trips.

Do you have whispy, white hair? A few extra pounds? Coffee stains on the uniform shirt? An ex wife or two? At least one of the following kit bag stickers: "pilots carry less than $100 in cash". "Experience matters". A palm tree sticker and/or In & Out burger logo..one of those? Saab type rating? Multiple Hawaiian shirts? Various cockpit idiosyncrasies that are matters of life and death to you?
