Anyways 5 years junior and not holding a line.. ummm.. What was the name of that truck driving school. Truck masters?
Seniority at the airline is determined by date of hire. Within you class, you will all have the same date of hire, so here, it goes by age within your class. Some airlines use the last 4 of your SS#.

In DTW, you can expect 1-2 years as an FO on reserve. ATL you can expect 3-4. IAD/DFW are about a year. Shortest upgrade in the company is still running about 8 years.

Do you have training or a medical due this month? It typically means you de qual if you don't complete something.

No that's why I don't know why they're there.

Are you serious? The mustard I cut fills my logbook with jet time. I don't have a spot for big and small RJ time. They are all RJs, no one cares about how much it weighs. Get over it. You are talking about a few thousand pounds and it's the same type. You should be more concerned about never upgrading and sitting reserve for years. I'd go somewhere else if I were a new hire.

I don't know how long I can be patient and wait while this job takes away the simple things in life because I want to fly for the majors. Hopefully we all have a chance soon with all of the jobs that are opening up. I think most of us will have a shot, but this waiting game here at Expressjet with no light at the end of the tunnel for the past 6 years and the foreseeable future, is getting old.
Trust me, same boat. 7 year FO here on the CRJ side. I have a massive student loan that's about 40% paid off. One difference is my wife's student loan was forgiven (teacher in underprivileged school district for certain # of years). That being said, there is never going to be a "good time" to have kids. You'll always need more things, house items will break, there will never be enough money. Don't let your career dictate your life. If you and your significant other are ready, do it. There are successful families that have a lot less than you. It also helps if you live near family that can help (in terms of watching kids/babysitting, advice, etc...)

The wait sucks... a lot. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, we just can't quite see it yet. Upgrade at L-ASA? Probably not. I'm less than 100 from the most jr CA but I don't see it happening. We're more likely to get picked up at a major carrier before we see a left seat at L-ASA. Hiring will pick up again this fall as UAL gets through their backlog of training and DAL will hire even more. Spirit, Virgin America, JetBlue, AA and USAir are all hiring as well. It will happen.
Agreed, you're more likely to get picked up by a Legacy/LCC AND upgrade there before you would at ASA. Upgrade at Airways is seven years shorter than ASA.

I had the same thing happen bc my temporary license expired after 120 days and I hadn't given them a copy of my permanent. You can upload it or just give a copy to the chief pilots office.

Actually it does matter if the aspiration is Emirates, however, Emirates really isn't hiring out of RJs right now. They might in the future as their pool dries up but my thinking is they will eventually go to purely abinitio training (zero to Airbus, all under their training umbrella)

Emirates has a minimum number of hours in aircraft above a certain weight limit and the 200 is too light. The 700 is heavy enough though.

With my luck, IF I get hired by them, those upgrade times will go back to the 20-25 year mark.
