"The airlines hire until they furlough. There will be another downturn and furloughs, not if, when! Getting drunk on cool aid is fine and then reality sets in."
Hey CA, your facts are not going to get in the way of that cool aide buzz this mngt desk jockey has on.

At risk of further derailing the XJT thread..
In reference to the previously mentioned "we've been here before only to have the rug pulled out". Have we really been here before? Has the demand for pilots ever honestly been this bad? With each of the legacies needing something like 700/year for the next 10 years and not to mention all the others that need to do such aggressive hiring just to keep up, is this uncharted territory?

It was pretty good after WW2 until the mid late sixties. 70s was furlough time. 78 -82 was ok. 85-90 was eh. 94-2001 eh. Then Quiet for a long time! Then starting in what, 2012. So an average is ten years say.
Sorry about the thread high jack (Sorry for the pun), it is a good point for discussion.
I remember watching all my regional brothers and sisters getting hired thinking my day would come. It didn't for a long time. At one stage, I even went back to the regionals and enjoyed but it shut down. This business can be frustrating. Some have had great success, others, not so much.
I'll shut up now.

This is so true! The funny thing is 95% of the guys saying that have put no effort into trying. They find comfort in their decision to stay by using this crutch. I've yet to find a person who says this that has an updated app, current logbook, and are going to job fairs or interview prep. It's just an excuse to not even try.

I am trying really, really, really hard to understand why anyone in their right mind would want to go to ExpressJet in today's environment.
I don't know if it's people not doing their research or maybe being misinformed but, to those of you applying to work there, are you aware that reserve is eternal and that you'll most likely never upgrade?
People are fleeing that place like the plague due to stagnation and beimg endless years on reserve. With other regionals, you'll be upgrading around the same time you'll have a line at XJT.
I am shaking my head in disbelief at this thread - I'm sure XJT is an awesome place to work at but that has nothing to do with career progression.

You live in an XJT base, would enjoy great qol,but would never upgrade? Do you go to XJT and wait for the call from a major or llc as an fo or do you go to PDT or G7 ,upgrade when you feel ready and log that coveted pic time?????
I know someone that is pondering that decision right now. I talked to him earlier today and he is leaning toward xjt.

They will be hiring approximately 5000 pilots a year. for the next 4 years. Delta, United and AA alone will be hiring 3000 per year. Add in Hawaiian, Southwest, Alaska/Virgin, Frontier, UPS, FedEx, JetBlue, Spirit, Allegiant, and the other major and LCC's, and that makes another 2000 a year.
5000 x 4=20,000
There are not currently 20,000 regional pilots.
Air Wisconsin - 650
Commutair - 300
Compass - 990
Endeavor - 1750
Envoy - 1800
Expressjet - 3385
GoJet - 500
Mesa - 1000
Piedmont - 450
PSA - 1200
Republic - 2000
SkyWest - 4000
TSA - 600
That equals just over 18,000 regional pilots.
In 2016, the majors/lcc's will have hired about 3800, plus the few hundred that were recalled from furlough at AA. 2016 was not supposed to be a big hiring year. If 4200 pilots is not a big hiring year, imagine what 2018-2020 is going to look like.

If a position at mainline is filled with an LCC pilot then it creates a job there, but that isn't 2 jobs available.
I.e. A Delta vacancy filled with a JB pilot creating a vacancy at JB. That is not 2 vacancys for the RJ pilot workforce.
