I'm getting my info from the company directory which is usually updated immediately. There is about 200 or so check airman and flight/ground instructors that aren't included in that. But we're bleeding fast.

My random thoughts.
1. We aren’t shutting down by this summer. Too much flying involved and UAL is having a tough enough time staffing their regional flying. Beyond summer 2019 all bets are off. Inc has already demonstrated that they will terminate agreements early.
2. Regional model is not dead in the near future. It’s just undergoing long overdue consolidation. Some markets will never be served by 320’s/717s, maybe not even C series types. Legacies need the feed from those cities. If oil goes up again, some will probably be dropped, 50 seats may be retired, but we shall see if/when that happens.
3. DAL mess. I think all parties were involved in this to some extent. XJT management ****ed off DAL. BS was able to smooth things over, but then he left, first to JetBlue and is now at DAL. Inc management did not help. Just as an example, our MX base in DTW was a joke. Mechs did a great job, but didn’t even have a hanger to work in. When SkyWest built a hanger for their mechs, outs couldn’t use it. After our MX base shut down Inc mechanics were so bad about not working on out a/c that we changed to Endeavor support. We couldn’t even borrow parts from our parent company- we had to drive parts over from CLE.😳 No wonder our numbers tanked.
I also suspect that DAL did try to purchase us but Inc overplayed their hand. We will probably never know for sure on that one. As it is DAL is getting what they wanted cheap- a bunch of experienced pilots at the bottom of their list. Great financial move on their part.
Finally, many won’t like hearing this, but we bear some of the blame. Keeping TM around as long as we did was not helpful. I think he succeeded in ****ing off everyone and nearly ensured the demise of the CRJ pilot group.
Many pilots hurt us flying in a way to “stick it to Inc and DAL”. Like DAL couldn’t tell that some pilots went out of their way to burn extra gas and do other things to poke them in the eye. Trust me. They know your employee number.
As for hurting Inc, well, understand this is business to them, not personal. If we give them a better ROI than the nonunion side they keep us. If we don’t, they don’t. Right now I think they just view us as an accumulator to cover flying until they can staff it.
4. UAL purchasing us. I don’t think it will happen. That rumor has been out there for years. Having said that, UAL needs to do something to get control of their RJ flying and fast or a bunch of ERJs will be parked due to a lack of crews. Don’t know about the ERJ side, but I think the next mass exodus will start 1 Jan. I can’t for the life of me think of a reason for an FO to stay here. For this reason alone there may be something in play with UAL to back up all the rumors floating around, but if it’s not huge try not to get trampled by herd stampeding for the door.

Just an update. On the final vacancy award an October 2nd new-hire got Atlanta 200 Captain. He will sit one month as an FO in NYC then start upgrade and differences training. Not quite street Captain, but pretty darn close. It may get closer.

Another update on this last award. It appears a 1 NOV new-hire was also awarded ATL 200 Captain. IT most likely means a year or two of reserve as Captain. ATL FO is awarded even quicker and should hold a line fairly quickly.
I wish the best for the future of XJT.
