FedEx Interviews and Class Dates
#231
With so many apps on file FedEx can be very selective in who they call for interviews. With the app window openning again in Aug it will give FedEx even more candidates to select from.
I'm just finishing up with the Navy and have 6000+ hrs of mostly multi-turbine time, am current, have all the advanced quals for a military pilot, a FedEx sponsor, and 5 FedEx pilot LORs and am hearing nothing but crickets. It is kind of frustrating to say the least, but like it was said earlier it can take a long time to get that call, and it will either work out or it won't.
Some great advice I was given (by a FedEx Pilot) "Apply to everyone who you'd like to work for, and dance with the first who asks"
Keep your head up and good luck!!!

Hello. I've been a long time lurker and have enjoyed the discussions here over the years. Haven't really had anything worth mentioning before but, I have been following this thread and wanted to share my experience with the 24 month FEX Written currency issue. I came from a 121 carrier that had three man crews. Before starting my profile when the window first opened in the beginning of this year, I called my sponsor to question the validity of my FEX written since it had expired in 2009 and wasn't sure if I was covered under the FAR guidelines of expiration. He felt like I would be covered and didn't see the need to retake it. I filled out the inital questionaire saying yes to a current FEX written. In the profile it asks for an expiration date which I inserted current, due to FAR guidlines, ie 121 carrier status. A few days after completing the profile I decided to re-take the FEX so there wouldn't be any question to the currency of the test. After recieving a job offer I was asked if I had taken a FEX written prior to submitting a profile. I said yes and faxed the expired results to HR. During BI O came in to our class and wanted us to convey to our guys and gals that if folks put that they had a current FEX while filling out the questionaire and come to find out that the candidate actually had an examination date after the inital profile date, then don't expect to get a phone call. More importantly, if some folks slipped through the cracks and are discovered at a later date they would be fired! I explained my story to O in front of the class so there wouldn't be any misgivings about my situation. O said that in the very beginning there was some confusion on the validity of the FAR interpetation, which was during the time I set up my profile, but he said that they have updated the website, since I've been hired, around the middle of June, to make it very specific as to what FEDEX is looking for now. So, if you were like me and got the the advice I recieved, it would behove you to go and take the test and update your profile. You might have some explaining to do, but do to the confusion early on I would think you would be OK. If you straight up answered yes to having a current FEX and weren't at a 121 carrier, unlike my situation, or took the FEX after filling out the profile I wouldn't go to the interview. Like others have wisely mentioned, they view it as lying if you don't have a FEX written within the 24 months period. Sorry to be so long winded for a first post. I just want everyone to be successful!!!

It doesn't look like the PilotCredentials.com website has been changed to clarify things. I'd still take it that if I was working at a 121 carrier it'd be valid, if I didn't know better.

I checked the FedEx application website last week, and contrary to some information posted here on APC, there is no mention of a requirement to take the FE written within the past 24 months. All that is stated is that a valid FE written is required, which under the FARS could have theoretically been taken many many years ago. So.....if an applicant has never been to this forum, and instead follows the instructions provided directly by FedEx, then there would be no way to know about any requirement for an FE written within the past 24 months. So FedEx has created this confusion, not the applicants.
How can FedEx penalize someone for being unaware of information that was not provided or available? Not everyone has an informed sponsor, or frequents APC. If an applicant completes a profile with an FE written result that is more than 24 months old, it does not necessarily indicate a lack of integrity, and it would be ridiculous to penalize someone for this.
If FedEx is so concerned about FE written exam dates, then they should make the requirements very clear in the information that is publicly available to ALL applicants via the official FedEx pilot application web site. As far as I know, APC is not the official source of FedEx application requirements (although perhaps it should be!
)
Good luck to all, regardless of when you took the FE written!
