FedEx Hiring
#2451
That means most new hires make a move (in 2017) to 137/167 their second year. That 167 number is what makes FDX so lucrative for a career here. Payrate for payrate, the legacies have caught up or exceeded us on a few jets (777). Average pilot gets to a WB sooner and is on it longer at FDX, which helps the career averages.

Of course, if those guys were say, over 60, but under 65, the union and company would agree that the "right thing to do" would be to have excess bids for all wide body FO seats to allow their "special friends" the chance to "exercise their seniority", because it was the "right thing to do".
But no, since it involves junior guys, the FDX MEC says "F them".
Hey FDX MEC, you represent ALL the pilots on the seniority list, now ACT LIKE IT AND FIX THIS!!!

The only fly in the ointment is the guys stuck on the NB aircraft while we hire, month after month into every WB aircraft on the property. Those NB FOs cannot exercise their seniority and benefit from these same pay rates new hires are getting simply by making it to their one year anniversary. Apparently this situation is completely acceptable since the silence from ALPA is deafening.

When I bid 767 FO on Bid 15-01...my training was scheduled 2+ years into the future. Meanwhile, I watched new hires every month be trained. If I had bid any other WB other than the 767, I would have been receiving Passover Pay but, because I "bid what I wanted to fly", no Passover for you.
So, on bid 16-01, I bid 757 Capt. My training is again scheduled 2+ years into the future (was recently pushed almost a year to the right). Why? This time it is because of limits in training capacity...they have to use 757 simulators to accomplish 767 training because...well you know that story.
I know there are growing pains when you bring on a new aircraft (767). But there is a group of 757 FOs who are bearing the brunt of this. Our training has, and continues to be, delayed to accommodate both new hires and 767 training requirements. They need us in the right seat of the 757...I get that. But at least you could be paying us the Passover Pay we are owed. Not paying Passover Pay, simply because we bid to the right seat of the 767 instead of any other WB, is just wrong.
P.S.
As Albie said, 20% (or more) of our bidpack has disappeared and gone to the 767. Good news for 767 guys...the company needs more of them and they will all be on WB pay...flying 757 lines. Not so great for us stuck on the 757.

Exactly! I am one of those guys. I have been trying to bid out of the right seat of the 757 since Bid 15-01.

When Congress first wrote Age 65, there was no consideration of pilots over 60 still on 121 Seniority lists because the vast majority had been forced to retire when the pax airlines furloughed thousands and retired their old aircraft.
Had our Union not lobbied on addressing that issue, we would've been sued for failing to represent the age 60+ folks still on property plumbing, as well as those hoping for a rapid change.
Company controls the bids. Company elected to cancel a bid.
Wish they hadn't.
But there's never been a Union Stamp of approval on any bid.
Never even head of any coordination between management and our Union over the proper staffing of any seat. Never a, well, we think you need to fill more Secondaries management.

I think by your Union agreeing to in your last contract to sell back sick time and the one year retirement notice, in addition to the increase in first yrs FDA pay pretty much help the company staffing or various seats don't you think?

The union nodded and winked then, just like they are now.
There were no seats to go back to for age 65, it required an excess bid to get them where the union and the company wanted them to go. If they had not done any excess bids, and had just done "normal" bids, that would have been more fair. The "bump and flush" was definitely not fair.
Right now, every 757 FO on the property is being denied the right to bid for wide body seats. Meanwhile, the company fills those same seats with new hires. What happened to the union's strong defense of the seniority system? The union should fight this tooth and nail. Every 757 FO should be getting passover pay even if one new hire is given a wide body right seat.
If the Union doesn't fix this, and immediately, the 757 FO's should be able to sue the union for failure to represent.
ALPA talks a good game, but doesn't always deliver.
