Screw that. The Instructor Pilot group got ZERO consideration before the last CBA. They signed the agreement and after the fact then realized there were instructors there and then immediately did the six page piece of garbage agreement for us. Unless there is something specific in whatever they come up with related to instructors, no way.

Well, unless they offer some huge $$$ for everyone, in which case I'm all in.

The CBA gave instructors status pay, that was a huge improvement that some peer airlines don’t have. Before the contract, unless you were a supervisor, you got FO pay while working in JBU.

Also, new-hire instructors don’t have to wait a year to get a seniority number.

 

That was definitely a step in the right direction, but that same CBA gave many more provisions to line pilots. I'm certainly happy about those as well, because I want ALL our pilots to do well and I want jetblue to do well and be more competitive hiring-wise with other major airlines.

Our instructors still don't make as much as the other major airlines (status pay is NOT what we have--instructors are capped by whatever fleet they are teaching in)...most majors pay what the instructor can truly hold (some even with an override). The scheduling provisions need to be TOTALLY reworked, as well as many other provisions. There is no way to look at what the instructors have and not say, yes we were thrown a bone or two, but it was obviously an afterthought and much, much more time needs to be spent actually looking at our provisions.

 

if the instructors stop picking up all the overtime you would get something done so fast. You saw what happened when instructors stopped for a month or two the whole thing stopped.

 

Totally agree. Problem now is that since literally one half of the instructors are new and making less than new FOs, I can’t really fault them for needing to make every buck they can.

While I’m not sure what the overall percentage is for the cadre as a whole, the majority of the instructors I had for transition had zero, read: zero time on the line. Like 80% of them were barely here 6 months. They were solid people, and I’m certainly not arguing that they deserve anything less than fair pay and consideration, but baby blues don’t exactly have a lot of sway when it comes to negotiating. They’re not even full union members.
