My kids are kind of at a sweet spot age where they are easy to travel with and also still like being around us. This summer it looks like we have nothing and everything planned at the same time. No camps or obligations tying us to home. We have pretty much decided to be a little nomadic while the kids are out of school. Visit some family, see some of our beautiful country, and some international travel. Dates are flexible. Maybe we will be home a little in between events or gone for a month or more.

I plan to fully use DTZ this summer. Start each month with a clean schedule and zero pay. As our schedule of fun evolves Iíll pick up trips in any number of our bases depending on our location at the time, perhaps maybe even some premium pay if itís possible. I think I can still allow for tons of fun time and still credit near guarantee working out of multiple bases as I see fit. Visit a national park maybe pop out for an easy two day. Visit SIL in another spirit domicile and gab a couple turns while wife and kids are visiting. Maybe work a week straight after a two week Europe trip without vacation.

Point being I never really used fully the DTZ and especially now bc my seniority gets nearly everything I want in my bid it wasnít a huge priority to me. Red/green was never up for debate. Now Iím seeing the DTZ potential
Throughout these debates I've thought and sometimes said, red/green benefits every pilot. DTZ may benefit, some pilots, some of the time. It's important to understand that when decisions need to be made.

Ok, with that logic, VDA should be considered the same. What is more beneficial to the entire group? Premium open time for anyone who wants it, FCFS; not just the most senior pilots.

Completely agree.

And of course those who get most of the VDA, based on their seniority, will disagree... But yes, I agree.

I guess I donít understand your system. I like the way youíre thinking, but if you (and a few other guys) drop to zero, doesnít that destroy the reserve grid for everyone else? So, a couple guys drop their whole month and when I have a personal event come up later in the month, I canít drop a trip because the reserve grid is now red?

You are correct. In the smaller bases, three guys DTZ and the rest of the month is red. Youíll have to call out sick.

Are your bid adjustment windows seniority based? Or first come first served? Iíd love to see a first window DTZ by first come first served which would spread the drop ability instead of just a few senior guys.

So the 3 guys with the fastest connection or the best BOT get to turn the grid red for the rest of us?

😂 True, but at least thereís a chance. Fastest bot might be able to get 1 drop request in before everyone else but not drop their whole month.

First drop window (Initial Open Time) is seniority based. This is where the grid has to be 75% green. This is open for two days and is processed in seniority order. Usually after this closes and is posted, the gird mostly goes red (in smaller understaffed bases, canít speak to the FLL and MCO mega bases).

The second opportunity to drop will be Daily Open Time, which follows the day after the close of Initial Open Time. Begins at noon and is processed first come, first served.

Yeah, having the first crack at DTZ going by seniority kind of blows. But then again Iím 80%+ in seat 😂
