You were at a regional. Not a legacy. You were probably pretty young and had no family either. What he's talking about here is folks at destination airlines that got throttled. That had a family, mortgage, bills. Got the rug pulled and then it took some time to crawl back out. Some in that time their spouses left them. Had several friends lose their spouses due to being furloughed. Cruel. But that's life.
Until you've been there, you really can't speak to it.
Then again there's the legacy folks with the main house, the lake house and the condo in Park City. The RV-7, the 38 ft boat on the lake etc etc etc.
I've always lived in this airline world well below my means. I budget for FO wages, been that way since I became an FO (from a SO).

I hit 60 a couple of years ago. It was a while before I realized that I should have been retired by then. And I saw how arbitrary and ridiculous the age 60 rule was. That's the perspective I'm talking about.

Make your case it’s fine. That’s how it’s supposed to work. But Where lepf lost me was going against the vast majority of memberships wishes. Followed by suing their own union and making alpa look bad in front of congress. Potentially taking away a bit of credibility. You hurt everyone with that imo.

Stop whining you [mod edit]. I’ve been through everything you have mentioned , including a loss of medical and will be ok. Some of us have relatives that were Pan Am, Eastern, Braniff, full time strikers at CAL and they all somehow have survived and had a decent life in retirement and somehow had/have money to pass on to their children. You and your ilk are embarrassing, [mod edit].
spoken like somebody who never went through the bankruptcy, furloughing, downsizing, outsourcing of the 80’s and 90’s…. The stagnation of the lost decade, more bankruptcies, more furloughs, not to mention the high probability in this profession of a divorce or two sapping funds…… since 2015 things have been improving with very few setbacks. If you’ve got less than 10 years in the industry, you don’t know what you’re talking about. Hearing it, reading about it, are all far different than having lived it.

But we are only talking just about past. This job may not even exist in 30 years when a large chunk of legacy pilots would be starting to prepare for retirement. Demanding to stay and soak up the best wages and seniority without even acknowledging the WAY more turbulent future ahead is not just selfish but sociopathic.

And yet you got an additional 5 years which completely devastated many, many others. And at least you get those 5 years. I know people who lost their jobs in the 08 recession and were too old to be competitive in the decade that followed unless they started over at entry level pay. Like I said, you are fortunate to be a multi-millionaire right now and if you're not, you have no one to blame but yourself.

The point is that simply being 65 has no bearing on anyone's ability to do the job. Just like 60 had no bearing on anyone's ability to do the job. You can't reasonably understand it or argue against it until you're there.
The other arguments (greed/you got your extra 5 years/get out of my seat grandpa) are emotional fluff. LEPF is just as guilty with their silliness.
